ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

We are currently seeking a Junior Communications Consultant for our Canadian Global Office, based in Ottawa, Canada. The Junior Consultant will be under the direct supervision of the Global Office Canada Communications Officer and in close coordination with the Communications, Advocacy and Marketing Division (CAM).

JOB PURPOSE

The World Food Programme (WFP) is the leading humanitarian organization saving lives and changing lives, delivering food assistance in emergencies, and working with communities to improve nutrition and build resilience. The purpose of this role is to implement the communications plan by supporting and delivering a range of communications activities, providing research and analysis, and prioritising effectively.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Master’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, International Development or other related fields

Experience: At least one to two years of professional experience in Communications

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Proven experience with corporate social media.
  • Proven experience using image software (eg. Canva, Mailchimp, Eventbrite) and database management. Video editing skills, experience with web analytics is an asset.

DELIVERABLES:

  1. Media contact lists up-to-date
  2. Execution of the social media plan
  3. Successful planning and execution of an event

OTHER SPECIFIC JOB REQUIREMENTS

Languages:

Working/full knowledge of English (C level) is required.

Applicants must be:

1. Canadian nationals holding a valid passport and/or identity card.

2. Non-Canadian citizens holding a valid Resident Permit to work and live in the country.

3. Located within commuting distance of WFP Ottawa Office at start date

FUNCTIONAL CAPABILITIES

  • Knowledge in communications: use sound theoretical knowledge on communication concepts and applies them to generate effective communication products across various media
  • Sociopolitical contextual understanding: demonstrates understanding of the multilateral/interagency environment in the Canadian context
  • Communication planning: applies good planning strategies and best practices to plan and implement communication tactics.
