JOB PURPOSE

To provide specialized support and technical analyses to policy and programme activities that effectively meet food assistance needs.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

Under the overall guidance of the Head of Office and the direct supervision of the Programme Policy Officer, the Programme Associate – Nutrition will carry out the following tasks:

  1. Contribute towards HIV/AIDS, nutrition sensitive projects and activities, plans and processes, ensuring alignment with the wider Country Office Strategic Plan, in close collaboration with relevant sectors within WFP in Eswatini.
  2. Apply project management principles to support specific and defined nutrition projects and activities.
  3. Provide advice on HIV/AIDS and nutrition programmes including assessment and analysis, the choice of objectives, activities, transfer modalities, rations, and commodity choice in line with WFP standards and processes.
  4. Represent WFP in nutrition working groups, nutrition sector/cluster, inter-agency coordination meetings and other relevant meetings as delegated by the supervisor.
  5. Collaborate with all the units within the Country Office to ensure effective design and delivery of the WFP nutrition programming.
  6. Monitor and report on the nutrition status in all WFP projects.
  7. Provide support in the development of new project proposals as well as in preparation of internal and external reports.
  8. Contribute to HIV/AIDS, Nutrition Social Behaviour Change Communication (SBCC) programme design, implementation follow up and reporting in support and collaboration with the Programme Policy Officer.
  9. Support the monitoring and evaluation of WFP activities, provide technical analysis, and interpretation on activities implemented in collaboration with emergency response, school feeding, NCPs, resilience, social protection and safety nets.
  10. Contribute to emergency preparedness actions, providing technical recommendations on contingency planning, risk analysis and early warning related to nutrition risks. Propose relevant action and solution for mitigation.
  11. Support the capacity building for WFP staff, partners and government to prepare for and respond to nutrition needs.
  12. Perform any other tasks that may be required.

OTHER SPECIFIC JOB REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Good analytical skills and experience in report writing.
  • Resourcefulness, initiative, maturity of judgment, ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing.
  • Has worked with technical teams (i.e. nutrition, vulnerability assessment mapping [VAM], etc.) and has contributed to implementation of programmes.
  • Ability to work in a team and establish effective working relations with persons of different national and cultural backgrounds.
  • Demonstrate ability to develop and maintain effective work relationships with counterparts and staff within the office, and with stakeholders.
  • Ability to establish priorities and to plan, coordinate and monitor own work plan.
  • Ability to analyse and interpret a wide variety of nutrition programme issues and statistical information, and to maintain accurate and precise records.
  • Ability to solve problems in a holistic manner and achieve planned goals.
  • Proficiency in MS Office suit.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: Completion of Secondary School education (12 years of schooling – O’level). A post-secondary education certificate in a related functional area is desirable.
  • Experience: At least five (5) years or more in a similar function of demonstrated applied skill in the line of work.
  • Language: Fluency in oral and written English and Siswati.

REMUNERATION

  • Monthly salary range: SZL19,715 – SZL27,597
