The purpose of this vacancy is to develop a list of qualified candidates for inclusion in this advertised roster for CDS programme, Nepal. Successful candidates will be placed on the roster and subsequently may be selected for the assignments falling in this area of work or for similar requirements/tasks/deliverables. Inclusion in the Roster does not guarantee selection to a SSA contract. There is no commitment on either side.
WHO Nepal Country Office supports the Government of Nepal (GoN) in formulation, implementation and evaluation of national health policies, strategies and plans as guided by the WHO Country Cooperation Strategy (CCS) 2018-22. WHO Country Office collaborates with GoN and other relevant stakeholders to support their efforts to combat various communicable diseases, including the elimination of Malaria in Nepal. The National Malaria Elimination Program has made remarkable progress in reducing indigenous malaria cases, moving closer to the target of zero cases. Nepal remains firmly committed to the elimination of malaria by the year 2025.
Objective of the Position:
This position is to provide technical assistance to the provincial, district and municipality levels to support Malaria Elimination efforts, particularly by strengthening the surveillance activities as well as investigations and follow-up of malaria cases, facilitating malaria outbreak investigation and response as well as data reporting and data analysis at the provincial level and below.
Summary of assigned Duties:
Under the guidance of WHO Representative Nepal, the incumbent will work under the supervision of Team Lead (CDS, WCO Nepal) and NPO in collaboration with the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division (EDCD) and the Provincial Health Directorate.
1. The incumbent will perform the following deliverables during the assignment period:
2. Assist provincial and local counterparts in effectively planning, implementing, and monitoring interventions for malaria control and elimination, including:
3. Conduct field visit and onsite monitoring of Malaria Surveillance interventions at the Provincial, District and Local level Health Facilities and provide technical inputs to improve malaria data recording, reporting and disease surveillance.
4. Assist in strengthening malaria data at the provincial level, including:
7.Present key findings of malaria M&E and Surveillance (progress and challenges) at the Provincial level and suggest feasible operational oriented solutions/improvement plan
8.Facilitate and advocate for strengthening the support of provincial programs to improve malaria M&E and surveillance interventions at the district and local levels.
9. Coordinate and provide support at sub-national levels to ensure the implementation of Active Case Detection, Surveillance, Case Investigation, reporting, and follow up of Malaria cases.
10. Provide technical assistance to the Provincial Health Directorate, Health Offices and Local levels to conduct case investigations for all confirmed cases of malaria in line with national malaria surveillance guidelines.
11. Provide technical assistance to ensure that all active foci are timely investigated and responded to in accordance with the national guidelines.
12. Support to ensure timely notification of all cases to the Malaria Disease Information System (MDIS), with confirmed cases reported into DHIS-2 (HMIS/EWARS). Provide support to identify and correct any discrepancies in reported data.
13. Work closely with government counterparts for malaria elimination program at provincial, district, and local levels.to ensure the compilation and complete documentation of all forms related to Active Case Detection (ACD) and case investigations.
14. Assist in all the process of preparation and documentation that requires for the verification of malaria elimination in Nepal
15. Prepare monthly, quarterly, bi-annual, and annual progress reports, including the number of cases investigated, case numbers and classifications, response and follow-up actions. Submit monthly report to the provincial health directorate, EDCD, and WHO Country Office.
16.Provide support for other Vector Borne Disease Program when needed.
17. Perform other relevant duties as assigned by the supervisor. This includes duty travel or duty-station reassignment on short notice as per the program requirements.
Qualification required:
Education:
Essential: Medical Graduate with Public Health Experience
Medical Graduation from an institution recognized by Nepal Medical Council with valid registration in the Nepal Medical Council
Desirable: Post-Graduate in Public Health or in an allied discipline.
Experience:
Essential: At least two years’ experience in public health programs including infectious disease control and surveillance at the national and sub national level.
Desirable:
Proven experience related to malaria control and elimination at the Provincial level
Proven experience in data management, analysis, data visualization and reporting related to infectious diseases
