About the Position

The Technical Officer – Aquatic Food Systems, under the direct supervision of Project Coordinator-cum-Senior Aquatic Food Systems Specialist, Assam will support;

  • The implementation of the WorldFish program in the state of Assam in general and the project named “Technical Assistance for the Fisheries sub-component of the World Bank Financed Assam Agribusiness and Rural Transformation Project (APART)”, in particular, ensuring that the objectives of the project and the deliverables/results are achieved in time and with quality; and
  • Provide support planning, implementation and reporting of aquatic food systems activities under the Work Package 2: AquaPartners of One CGIAR initiative on Aquatic Foods in India. She/he will provide handholding support to the stakeholders including Farmer Producer Groups and Farmer Producer Organisations, farmers, fish hatchery operators involved in fish production activities in coordination with the officials of the Department of Fisheries, College of Fisheries and other concerned institutions / organisations.

The Person

The successful candidate will:

  • Support the Project Coordinator-cum-Senior Aquatic Food Systems Specialist the planning, implementation and reporting of aquatic food systems activities under the Work Package 2: AquaPartners of One CGIAR initiative on Aquatic Foods in India. This includes building strong technical partnerships and collaborations with various Institutes, Universities, State & Central Departments & agencies, NGOs, International Organisations & Donors, Philanthropic agencies etc.
  • Implement the APART fisheries sub-component activities under WorldFish in various project districts under the guidance of Project Coordinator.
  • Support the Project Coordinator for preparation of capacity building plan and its implementation.
  • Provide handholding support to the project beneficiaries to adopt the practices, technologies & systems in close consultation with concerned Government officials and stakeholders in time-bound manner.
  • Provide support for conducting state-level and national-level exposure visits of Government officials, FPC / FPO beneficiaries and other beneficiaries of the project.
  • Provide technical inputs to prepare various IEC (information, education and communication) materials such as training manuals, leaflets, posters, audio-visuals etc.
  • Build solid rapport with District and Block-level Fishery officers, TEFs of APART project and project beneficiaries in order to efficiently and effectively implement the project.
  • Take up the required field surveys under the supervision of the Monitoring, Evaluations and Learning officer of APART Project.
  • Prepare “Success stories” on quarterly basis and provide it to APART newsletter and WorldFish website blog.
  • Prepare monthly progress report in standard format and submit it to the Project Coordinator.
  • Take up any other duties as assigned by the Project Coordinator.

Requirements

This job might be for you if you have the below skills and qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Fisheries Science / Agricultural Science / Life Science / Social Science.
  • Excellent communication skills in Assamese language.
  • At least 3 years of field experience working with fish farmers, agriculture farmers, farmers cooperatives, FPC etc either in Government or in private sector projects.
  • Very good technical and practical understanding on fish seed and feed production, composite fish culture.
  • Good knowledge of computer usage for day-to-day works (MS Word, MS Excel. MS Power Point)

Desired Skills and Qualifications

  • Knowledge on polyculture of giant freshwater prawn with Indian major carps is advantageous.
  • Possess a keen interest to travel extensively to work with communities for their developmental impacts.
  • Track record on fisheries related publications in the form of popular articles in mass media and business magazines, scientific papers, blogs in websites etc.

Recruitment Process

This is a Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) position and WorldFish offers a competitive remuneration package including comprehensive benefits (but not limited to) insurance coverage for staff and eligible dependents, employer provident fund contribution, paid leave and others. The duration of the contract will initially be for a three-year period with possibility for extension, depending on funding and performance.
