The Alliance of Bioversity International and International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT) delivers research-based solutions that harness agricultural biodiversity and sustainably transform food systems to improve people’s lives. Background of the position

The position’s objective is to oversee the implementation of three ongoing projects (Agroecological Regenerative Cocoa, Peru-HUB, Agroecological TRANSITIONS Inclusive Digital Tools, and BIOTRAILS) in LAC primarily, and supporting the development of the corporation’s market segment storyline for the ImpactSF hub at a global scale.

Key duties & responsibilities

 

  • Lead the coordination and implementation of activities to guarantee successful toward project planned outputs and outcomes
  • Supervise and manage project staff and external short-term consultants, lead the project team in both administrative and technical issues.
  • Undertake day to day management of the project, including smooth project implementation, efficient use of resources
  • Manage the project budget internally.
  • Organize and attend project team meetings for planning and alignment purposes.
  • Perform filed visits to supervise project implementation activities.
  • Prepare work plans, produce timely reports – financial and progress reports – as required by the donor.
  • Support the application of research methodologies and coordinate stakeholder workshops for data collection in the Peru case study for the BIOTRAILS project.
  • Provide feedback on staff supervision and evaluation.

 

Requirements

Required qualifications and experience
  • Masters or PhD level education in economics, sustainable development, and or finance.
  • More than 5 years of experience in agriculture-related market assessment and value chain analysis is desired.
  • Experience in carrying out financial analyses for the development of investment instruments for sustainable development.
  • Knowledge of sustainable funding mechanisms and incentives including the development of carbon projects, Payment for Ecosystem Services, and sustainable labeling and certifications, across agricultural value chains, from production to consumption, is desired.
  • Experience in supervision of teams
  • Project management and coordination skills.
  • Excellent oral and written English.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, experienced in working with multicultural and multidisciplinary research teams.
  • Have initiative and capable of working independently as well as in team environments.
  • Competency in personal organization, priority setting, and managing multiple tasks.

Terms of employment

This is an internationally recruited position based in the United States. The initial contract will be for one year subject to a probation period of six months and is renewable depending on performance and availability of resources.

This position is graded at BG08 level, on a scale of BG01 to BG14 (BG14 being the highest level according to the Alliance job classification framework policy).
