About the position

PABRA under the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT is looking for a nutrition and food technology intern to support development and optimization, as well as promotion, demand creation and evaluation of common beans and bean-based processed food products to enhance value-addition, commercialization, nutrition, and food security.

 

Key duties & responsibilities

  • Work with processors and scientists to assist in formulating and developing bean-based food product prototypes.
  • Conduct trials and testing for product stability, taste, and nutritional content and sensory evaluations for prototypes and existing bean-based products for enhanced nutritional value and consumer acceptance.
  • Develop nutritional information panels and labels for new and existing products and collaborate with the research teams to assess the health benefits of bean consumption.
  • Implement climate smart quality control measures during the processing of bean-based products and ensure compliance with national and international food safety standards.
  • Document and report on quality assurance processes and outcomes.
  • Develop educational and promotional materials and campaigns, including social media, to promote the nutritional benefits of beans and bean-based processed food products.
  • Assist in conducting market research to identify consumer preferences and market trends.
  • Maintain accurate records of project activities and outcomes.
  • Prepare regular progress reports for the supervisor and stakeholders.

 

Requirements

  • Bachelor or Master’s degree in nutrition, food and consumer economics, food science, foodstuff technology or a related discipline.
  • Creativity and critical thinking are key.
  • Strong understanding of food chemistry, microbiology, and processing technologies.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office and industry-specific software.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, including social media.
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment.

 

Terms of employment

This is an internship position based in Kigali, Rwanda. The initial contract will be for a period of six (6) months subject to availability of funds and performance.
