LOCATION Dhaka, Bangladesh (travel to implementation areas) GROUP Human Rights, Education, and Empowerment REPORTS TO Sr. Accountant, Esho Shikhi “Come and Learn” Activity STATUS Full Time (yearly renewable) TENTATIVE START DATE Immediately Winrock International is inviting applications for the position of Accountant for the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID)-funded Esho Shikhi (Come and Learn) Activity in Bangladesh. Esho Shikhi is a five-year project (2021–2026). The overall objective of Esho Shikhi is to improve the Bangla reading skills of Grade 1 and Grade 2 students and develop them as independent readers. Esho Shikhi works to increase learning opportunities, improve quality education, and build the capacity of communities to support education and respond to disasters. The Accountant will report to the Senior Accountant to support all financial accounting for Esho Shikhi. Will be responsible for preparing, filing, scanning, and maintaining Esho Shikhi’s accounting records. S/he will work with the Senior Accountant to establish, manage, and maintain effective, transparent, and auditable processes and procedures, according to USAID and Winrock International financial policies and procedures. Position summary: The Accountant will report to the Senior Accountant to support all financial accounting for Esho Shikhi. Will be responsible for preparing, filing, scanning, and maintaining Esho Shikhi’s accounting records. S/he will work with the Senior Accountant to establish, manage, and maintain effective, transparent, and auditable processes and procedures, according to USAID and Winrock International financial policies and procedures.
Manage relations with banking institutions and Bangladesh revenue government agencies, etc. Maintain bank, cash, and checkbook records by using accounting software. Help to prepare wire requests to be submitted to Winrock’s home office. Prepare and update monthly disbursement schedule and financial reports. Make payments to staff, vendors, consultants, and training participants in compliance with Winrock and donor regulations and Bangladeshi legal requirements. Adhere to Winrock’s and USAID financial procedures and record-keeping policies. Maintain updated and accurate Finance and Administrative filing systems. Assist the supervisor and Director of Finance in enforcing accounting controls and procedures that ensure the activity’s high level of financial integrity. Maintain and update a travel advance request filling system to ensure staff account for resources in an accurate and timely manner. Assist the Senior Accountant and Director of Finance in preparing budgets, budget narratives and monthly, quarterly, and annual projections. Support the submission of timely and accurate monthly financial and reconciliation reports to home office. Any other duties and tasks as assigned.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, management, or a related discipline required. Work Experience: 3-5 years’ experience working on finance in donor funded projects in Bangladesh. Previous experience with USAID funded projects preferred. Skills: Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills, creative problem solving, conflict, and ethical management skills. Exceptional organizational skills. Fluency in written and oral English and Bengali required. Strong skills in spreadsheet software (Microsoft). Working knowledge of QuickBooks Pro or similar accounting software essential. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Excellent benefits are offered.
