ABOUT THE ROLE / WHAT THE ROLE OFFERS

CARE Canada’s Global Programs Team is responsible for developing and managing the organization’s programs in both development and humanitarian assistance focusing on the injustice of poverty and gender inequality. The new Strategic Plan reaffirms our gender-equality focus and our dual-mandate status. Our ultimate impact goal is to support women’s leadership for a gender-just future grounded in strong programs supporting safety/protection, health and dignified livelihoods across both humanitarian and development settings. The Global Programs unit is responsible for the overall management of CARE Canada’s global programming circa $50-60m annual development and humanitarian programming portfolio.

Under the leadership of the Director, Program Quality & Impact, and working in a matrix line-management relationship with the Deputy Director, Humanitarian and Resilience, the Advisor, Humanitarian and Resilience plays an integral role in CARE Canada’s Global Programs Department, in providing technical leadership on humanitarian and resilience programs and approaches. They work closely across the team to support CARE Country Offices to grow the overall portfolio and effectively implement high quality programs aligned to the CARE 2030 program strategy, aiming, and advocating for a feminist transformative approach in our programming. More specifically, they will be an internal and external champion on Gender in Emergencies across all our humanitarian work. They contribute to the success of the team and ensure that our work is aligned to CARE Canada’s values and approaches in all that they do, with decolonisation as a core principle.

 

WHAT YOU OFFER / ABOUT YOU

 

  • Significant experience in implementing humanitarian & resilience programs, including a significant portion of this experience gained in the Global South.
  • Experience and commitment to promoting gender equality and implementing gender transformative programs, particularly gender in emergencies.
  • Experience providing technical assistance to program teams on humanitarian & resilience issues.
  • High level of influential leadership and strategic collaboration skills from a matrixed role to bring people together for collective ideas and action.
  • Ability to build networks with external and internal stakeholders.
  • Experience working at all levels of the project cycle including one or many of the following: design, delivery, reporting, evaluation; additional sectoral technical assistance experience would be an asset.
  • Demonstrated knowledge, expertise, and passion for international humanitarian & resilience / nexus work with a focus on quality programs; in particular, an understanding of current trends, opportunities and challenges facing this sector.

 

WHAT WOULD MAKE YOU EXTRAORDINARY

 

  • Multilingual candidates are strongly preferred. An ability to work effectively in two of CARE’s working languages is highly desired, including English, French, Spanish, Arabic, and more.
  • Thorough understanding of and previous experience managing complex Global Affairs funding, including familiarity with Contribution and Grant Agreement requirements, negotiations and execution. Experience of working with other donors is an advantage.
  • Specialized technical expertise within the humanitarian & resilience space, including but not limited to the areas of the CARE 2030 Program Strategy (gender equality, crisis response, food and water, economic justice, health and climate justice).

 

 

 

 

 

REQUIREMENTS

 

Promote and maintain an organizational culture that advances gender equality, reduces power abuse and inequalities, and fosters trust and safety.

 

Create an environment within CARE’s workplaces, programming, and communities where CAREworks thatis free from sexual harassment, sexual abuse and sexual exploitation and child abuse (SHEA-CA).

 

Ensure high standards of prevention and response measures for SHEA-CA are in place consistent with theCARE International (CI)Safeguarding Policy and Safeguarding Code of Conduct.

  • Starting salary range between $76,000 – $81,000
