USAID Western Kenya Sanitation Project (WKSP) is a five (5) year project which is being implemented in Busia, Bungoma, Homa Bay, Kakamega, Kisii, Kisumu, Migori, and Siaya counties. The overall goal of the project is to create a financially sustainable, transformative, replicable, and locally owned sanitation marketplace in the target counties of western Kenya. The objectives to achieve this goal are (1) increased access to and uptake of market based improved sanitation and FSM products and services, (2) increased access to and uptake of market based improved MHM products and services at the household level, and (3) strengthened policy and regulatory environments and increased capacity of county government officials to effect lasting change in sanitation management.

PSI seeks an Advisor I, Technical Project that will be responsible for supporting the implementation of market-based development strategies, drive business development activities to foster partnerships that promote the adoption of innovative sanitation solutions in the target market. Develop and implement strategies to enhance services, attract investment and create sustainable business models, including engaging with internal and external stakeholders to ensure project deliverables are achieved. May contribute to internal and external capacity building efforts.

Salary Range:
2,820,000 KES (MINIMUM) – 4,700,000 KES (MID-POINT) – 6,110,000 KES (MAXIMUM)

Actual base salary compensation will be determined by factors such as a candidate’s qualifications, experience, internal equity, external market analysis, and other business factors permitted by law. Your contributions

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the project’s technical activities and strategy. Oversee specific project deliverables to ensure they are completed on time and in accordance with PSI quality standards. 50% of Time
  • Contribute to regular reporting on program activities, including documenting key learnings and guidelines. Contribute to the timely preparation and submission of project technical reports for management and donors’ decision-making process. Synthesize lessons learnt documentation and dissemination of best practices. 20% of Time
  • Contribute to development of project technical guidance. Provide technical assistance and/or training to build capacity of project staff, partners, and stakeholders to effectively deliver desired project results. 20% of Time
  • Undertake regular field monitoring of technical activities to ascertain progress and utilization of resources against the workplan and make timely recommendations for follow-up. Provide inputs to the project’s program management team for the development of budgets and budget realignments by project’s program management team. 10% of Time

What are we looking for?

  • Bachelor’s Degree in sales, marketing, business administration (or international equivalent) in a related field.
  • Master’s Degree in sales, marketing, business administration (or international equivalent) in a related field preferred.
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience. Equivalent combination of related education and experience may be substituted.
  • Demonstrate solid technical knowledge in relevant technical area.
  • Ability to provide technical assistance to project staff and external stakeholder with support.
  • Ability to implement technical products and tools.
  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships with internal colleagues. Able to work as a member of a team and independently
  • Creative thinker with ability to contribute to technical approach.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365. Familiarity with a quantitative or qualitative data analysis program preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficiency in English (spoken and written) as well as the language of the applicable country and/or region.
  • Cultural humility and respect.
