Background:

Welthungerhilfe is a private, non-profitmaking, politically independent and non-denominational organization that supports people living in deprivation and poverty, irrespective of the color of their skin, their religious beliefs, or their worldview. WHH is working in the fields of development cooperation and humanitarian aid, relief aid, rehabilitation, and reconstruction.

Overall Roles:

Under the supervision of the Senior Project Officer, the Agricultural Engineer will be supporting the agriculture field team on the project activities of the project’s partner organisations in Syria.

The tasks of the Agricultural Engineer are as follows:

· Counsel the agriculture team and beneficiaries on which vegetables/seeds to be cultivated; which fertilizers, agricultural pesticides etc. to be used, and assist the project team in allocating the land/s throughout the project implementation Assist the field coordinator in locating the targeted household in/off camps

· Provide technical support to project team and beneficiaries when necessary by following up the project periodically and submit required reports.

· Follow the WHH’s guidelines and regulations throughout the project and support the partner organisations accordingly

· Assist the team in market assessment, in conducting questionnaires (BNFs, vendors)

· Needs evaluation and preparation of site visiting studies, agricultural questionnaires etc.

· Knowledge of property rights is an asset (HLP)

· Daily direct field follow-up, monitoring the quality of materials, and the correctness of the implementation of the works and their compliance with the technical specification.

· Set project documents and papers and submit them to the field coordinator.

· Prepare any report requested by the field coordinator.

· Deliver feedbacks and recommendations to the supervisor on the project implementation and security situation in the field

· Support initiatives to collect feedback on the program from the different parties associated with the project.

· Follow all necessary health and safety rules (regards to Covid-19) including road safety, communication and ensure the logistics of the team.

· Undertaking other project tasks as required.

Required Qualifications:

· Position is open to Syrian nationals only

· Education: Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture Engineering, or any related field.

· Work Experience: Minimum two years professional experience in a similar position, preferably in a non-profit organization

· Skills/knowledge:

– Experience in conducting Key Informant Interviews/assessments

– Experience in using data collection tools

– Knowledge of common computer programs, particularly MS Excel and MS Word

– Experience working in unsecure and remote locations and reporting to remotely located management

– Ability to network and work in a team.

– Able to bear the pressure of fieldwork

· Language Skills:

– Arabic required (written & spoken)

– Good level in reading and writing in English.

· **Familiarity withLocal Context:**Candidates who have work experience and knowledge of the local context in Afrin is preferred.

The Agricultural Engineer will be obliged to maintain confidentiality regarding all information obtained in the course of his/her work during the employment at Welthungerhilfe and thereafter.
