Purpose of Job

Analyst EMPU role is the liaison point for Banking and Finance for all matters relating to equity portfolio management. To ensure on-going integrity of the Bank wide equity data and to provide a common platform of consistent information, analysis and reporting across the Bank on all matters related to the Bank’s equity portfolio. EPMU acts as a centre for co-ordination of equity related information and is the business owner of the Bank’s equity software (Framework and eFront valuation model) enabling analysis of the equity portfolio across all sectors and teams, and is the first point of contact for equity related queries. The EPMU Analyst works on all aspects of the day-to-day business activities related to equity investments; reviewing new signings and exits, advising on cash transactions, preparing and checking valuations, information capture, data analysis and reporting with guidance from senior team members where necessary.

Accountabilities & Responsibilities

  • Overview and reporting on the entire equity portfolio including pipeline, current and realised direct equity investments, and equity and property funds
  • Assist with preparation of reports for senior management and committees (such as Banking VP, Equity Committee, EVRC) along with providing information and guidance on aspects of equity across the Bank
  • Work in a collaborative manner with other colleagues and Banking counterparts on respective portfolios including quarterly and semi-annual reviews of equity valuations
  • Liaise with other departments internally (Equity Banking, Equity Risk, Financial Accounting, IT, Data Management and Operations Banking Securities) and externally (Bank’s auditors)
  • Participate in the Bank’s direct equity fair value approval process, and equity and property funds portfolio data collection and valuation process
  • Be a part of a culture where team members are responsible for the quality of their output
  • Deliver day-to-day operational activity/tasks, conforming to established standards, levels and deadlines, i.e. reviewing legal documentation for new equity investments, advising on transaction codes and booking procedures for divestments, equity fund capital calls and distributions, and providing advice on other equity related issues (e.g. Shareholder Meeting voting and Nominee Director policy)
  • Responsible for assigned Banking sector team/portfolio, monitor the portfolio and work with relevant Banking counterparts (Value Creation Leaders, Equity Lead and Operation Leaders and/or Portfolio Managers)
  • Collect analytical and static data, including proactive verification to endure consistency and data maintenance, ensure that all legal arrangements (such as unconditional put and call options, restructuring) are recorded correctly
  • Periodic and ad-hoc reporting for management and other stakeholders, data analysis and preparation for larger management reporting as required
  • Testing of system upgrades, enhancements/fixes, including defining and running user acceptance testing in co-operation with IT
  • Provide external auditors with relevant documentation and assist them with any other queries they might have

Knowledge, Skills, Experience & Qualifications

  • University degree (finance, economics, business or related subject) or several years of relevant banking/portfolio experience
  • Professional Qualifications such as ACA, CFA, CPA etc. would be advantageous
  • Quantitative/ numerical skills proficiency with the ability to interpret financial information and understand and review financial models
  • Computer literacy, Microsoft Office (specifically Excel)
  • Good understanding and/or aptitude to learn relevant systems and processes
  • Fluent English, with strong written and oral communication skills
  • Previous experience in banking and general understanding of equity investments
  • Strong team player with keen attention to detail and the ability to organise, multi task and prioritise effectively to meet deadlines
