CHAI was founded in 2002 in response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic with the goal of dramatically reducing the price of life-saving drugs and increasing access to these medicines in the countries with the highest burden of the disease. Today, along with HIV, we work in conjunction with our partners to prevent and treat infectious diseases such as COVID-19, malaria, tuberculosis, and hepatitis. CHAI’s global malaria and neglected tropical disease (NTD) program provides direct technical and operational support to countries around the globe to strengthen their programs and reduce the burden of preventable, treatable diseases. We support governments to scale up effective interventions for prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and surveillance, with the goals of sustainably reducing the number of illnesses and deaths worldwide in the short-term and accelerating progress towards elimination of malaria and NTDs in the long term.

Position Overview

The successful candidate will be responsible for a wide variety of tasks, from performing quantitative and qualitative analyses to providing dedicated day-to-day operational and coordination support to ensure execution of assigned task. The individual will collaborate with a diverse team of CHAI staff based in country and globally, relevant government, technical, and implementing partners. They will also be expected to support Surveillance and M&E while providing relevant programmatic support relating to improvements in vector control, supply chain and case management. The individual must be able to implement work plans and carry out assigned task rapidly and with limited guidance. This role offers a unique opportunity for a talented individual to apply analytical and problem-solving skills to support program implementation.

The candidate must have excellent analytical, problem-solving, organizational, communication, and project management skills as well as adept cultural sensitivity and emotional intelligence. The position will be based in Freetown with frequent travel to districts in Sierra Leone and occasional international travel.

• Support the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of country-specific government strategies, roadmaps, and work plans for malaria control.
• Support the design and implementation of monitoring and evaluation systems to measure progress towards malaria control goals (analysis of key indicators, design and implementation of monitoring and evaluation of surveillance platforms, etc.)
• Support the coordination of inception meetings and engagement workshops to promote and socialize CHAI’s support to the NMCP.
• Support the coordination of a validation workshop of sub-national tailoring analysis for informed program planning and resource allocation.
• Support the planning and implementation of surveillance assessment.
• Provide support to TWGs and coordination meetings, ensuring effective collaboration and communication among stakeholders. Handle secretariat duties, including documenting and following up on action points.
• Support the conduct of a comprehensive scoping exercise across thematic areas like Surveillance, case management, supply chain, program management to identify priorities, challenges, and opportunities for improvement.
• Design surveys, interviews, and focus groups to collect qualitative and quantitative data from relevant stakeholders.
• Support the NMCP during site visits to healthcare facilities to observe current practices and identify areas for optimization.
• Undertake any other responsibilities as assigned by program leadership.

• Bachelor’s degree with 1-2 years of relevant work experience or Master’s in public health, epidemiology or related field.
• Experience in monitoring and evaluation of surveillance systems and/or public health programs and strengthening of information systems.
• Familiarity with data entry, data management, epidemiological analysis and statistical analysis using statistical software (R, STATA and/or other relevant software.
• High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Exceptional problem-solving, analytical, and quantitative skills.
• Skills in making persuasive presentations and written reports.
• Possess the ability to think strategically while maintaining strong organizational skills and a detail-oriented approach.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships in a multicultural environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to synthesize data into effective presentations and reports.
