We are seeking an Animal Research Technician for a 15-months-regular position (Replacement for Maternity Leave) to work within the Animal Facilities Department at the International Vaccine Institute in Seoul, Korea. (Duty station: Seoul, Korea)
Job Description
This job is responsible for housing laboratory animals and maintaining appropriate animal research environment according to the IVI guidelines and SOPs.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
1. Housing and Care of Laboratory Animals
Animal Care:
• Feeding & Housing Environment: Ensure animals are fed regularly and that their housing environment is maintained in good condition.
• Health Monitoring: Regularly check the condition of the animals. Separate and treat those in poor health based on the ARF supervisor’s instructions.
• Cage Exchange: Replace cages with new ones weekly to maintain a clean and healthy environment.
• Water & Feed Supply: Provide water and feed to animals bi-weekly.
• Health Separation & Treatment: Isolate sick animals and follow ARF supervisor’s orders for their treatment.
2. Maintenance of Animal Housing Environment and Supplies
Environmental Monitoring:
• Temperature & Humidity Checks: Daily monitoring of temperature and humidity levels. Conduct comprehensive environmental checks every three months and report findings to the ARF supervisor.
Equipment & Supplies Maintenance:
• Equipment Check: Regularly inspect animal housing equipment and ARF-related equipment to ensure proper functioning.
• Infectious Waste Management: Collect and properly dispose of infected materials in the infectious waste box. Sterilize these materials as necessary.
• Cleaning Supplies: Wash and autoclave animal housing supplies when needed.
• Supply Transfer: Move sterile cages, housing supplies, and personal protective equipment to ARF clean storage and labs.
• Disinfection: Prepare and apply disinfectants for each housing area and laboratory. Clean and disinfect housing rooms daily.
3. Support for ARF Management and Research Activities
Record Keeping & Compliance:
• Documentation: Maintain records of animal housing, environmental conditions, and equipment. Manage documentation for internal and external inspections.
• Compliance: Ensure all practices and records are in line with international and domestic guidelines and ARF SOPs.
Research Support:
• Experimental Procedures: Provide support for research teams with primary experimental procedures as needed.
Training:
• Completion of Required Training: Participate in and successfully complete all required institute training programs.
Job Requirements and Qualifications
1. Education Requirements
Junior college graduate or university graduate (전문대졸 이상)
A laboratory animal related department graduate or graduating student
Animal research experienced person of KALAT (Korea Association for Laboratory Animal Technician) Certificate holders will be given preference
