Position Title: Assistant Chef
Reports to: Chef
Department: Operations
Liaises with All Employees
Supervises: Cook in the absence of the chef
Work Location: Maryland
Employment Type: Full Time
Position Overview:
Purpose of this Position:

Under the direct supervision of the Chef, the Assistant Chef shall support the kitchen operations in his/her functions detailed below and shall deputize for the Chef in his/her absence.

 

Position Summary:

This position ensures that the chef is assisted in the preparation of food, beverages, and cooking meals in accordance with menus; and service of the same. Ensure the washing of dishes and kitchen utensils; and, support the general cleaning duties related activities as directed by the Chef.

Duties and Responsibilities:
 

  • Support the chef in the preparation and cooking of a variety of foods;
  • Prepares and cooks food to the highest standards;
  • Ensures that all food items prepared and served are according to established standards and practices.
  • Ensure safe Health and Safety practices by:

– reporting of all equipment not working properly;

– observe all hygiene regulations;

– ensure that food is correctly stored;

  • Ensure that all utensils are clean and in readiness for use;
  • Serve meal to staff and guest.
  • Assist in the preparation of store releases and purchase requisition
  • Assist in the acquisition of food stuff in the local markets
  • Account for cash advances given to them and kitchen staff under their delegation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor

 

Academic qualification:
Competency Profile:
The key competencies required for the position of Assistant Chef:

  • High school level education or good level of cooking and production experience
Experience and Expertise:
  • Two or more years of dedicated experience working as a cook;
  • Available to work overtime when requested;
  • Have a clean neat personal appearance;
  • Special attention to grooming, hygiene care and clean and proper clothing;
  • Ability to work long shifts and on a seven-day roster;
  • Good communication skills;
  • Knowledge of kitchen and food preparation standards;

Strong people skills with a profound ability to take directions.
