About IRRI

 

The International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) is dedicated to reducing poverty and hunger through rice science; improving the health and welfare of rice farmers and consumers; and protecting the rice-growing environment for future generations. IRRI is an independent, nonprofit, research and educational institute, founded in 1960 by the Ford and Rockefeller foundations with support from the Philippine government. Job Purpose

 

Under the supervision of the Senior Manager-IRRI Tech Transfer, and in the frame of applicable CGIAR and IRRI guidelines and policies, manage, coordinate and monitor IP-related activities including:

  • Review, evaluate and facilitate IRRI Tech Transfer proposals and agreements such as Confidentiality and Non-Disclosure Agreements (CNDAs), Material Transfer Agreements (MTAs), Letter of Agreements (LOA), sponsored research agreements, licensing and commercial agreement, framework agreement, data sharing agreements and any other ITT-related agreements (or others as requested) with the private sector partners
  • Lead the process for compilation and summarizing the intellectual assets information and drafting of IRRI annual intellectual assets report
  • Ensure compliance with IRRI’s IP&C Policy, Treaty /SMTA, CBD, Nagoya, and CGIAR IA Policies
  • Update and monitor IRRI Intellectual Property (IP) portfolio (patents, Trademarks, Copyright and PVP applications)
  • Conduct regular reviews on IRRI’s IP portfolio together with internal colleagues, consultants, and patent lawyers
  • Lead regular internal audits of patent and other IP applications and make proposals on IP management
  • Perform advanced internet searches on patents, and market information on partners
  • Organize workshops on IP management for IRRI colleagues and partners
  • Create, update and monitor ITT databases and filing systems (e.g., IRRI Tech Transfer Dashboard/Tracker, ITT Internal Monitoring Sheets, etc.)

This position will be based at the IRRI Headquarters, Los Baños, Philippines and may only be filled by permanent citizens of the Philippines.

 

Roles and Responsibilities

 

  • Autonomously conducts review and administrative follow up of PPP proposals and agreements (CNDAs, MTAs, licensing agreement, framework agreement, etc.), and IRRI IP portfolio (patents, Trademarks, Copyright and PVP applications);
  • Update and manage ITT databases and filing systems to ensure information is easily available and records are up to date
  • Conduct regular reviews on IRRI’s IP portfolio together with internal colleagues and patent lawyers
  • Perform advanced internet searches on patents and market information on partners including partner’s activities
  • Organize workshops on IP management for IRRI colleagues
  • Create, update and monitor ITT databases and filing systems (e.g., IRRI Tech Transfer Dashboard/Tracker, ITT Internal Monitoring Sheets etc.);
  • Conduct quality insurance correspondent for ITT and optimization of administrative procedures;
  • Engage with key stakeholders for protection of innovations (patents, trademarks, utility models, plant varieties, etc.)
  • Coordinate and liaise with internal and external stakeholders and other IRRI teams/units on intellectual property matters (including material/germplasm exchange of IRRI with external partners) as well as compliance to IRRI’s IP&C Policy, Treaty/SMTA and CGIAR IA Policies
  • Engage with internal key stakeholders for the diffusion of IP&C guidelines and IP awareness through regular workshops
  • Maintain flow of information and appropriate communication within and other teams to ensure quality insurance correspondent for IRRI Tech Transfer and optimization of administrative procedures
  • Facilitate orientation of scholars and trainees attending defined events
  • Ensure efficient management of ITT-led agreements, proposals and IRRI’s IP assets
  • Respond to inquiries requiring a general understanding of policies, procedures, and technical work of IRRI Tech Transfer

 

Qualifications

 

  • Master’s degree related to IP management, preferably for agriculture
  • Technical expertise in IP management
  • Minimum 3 years experience in IP management
