Org. Setting and Reporting

This position is located in the Advocacy Section (AS), Public Affairs and Policy Support Branch (PAB), Division for Policy Analysis and Public Affairs (DPA), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), in Vienna. The incumbent will work under the direct supervision and overall guidance of Chief, Advocacy Section.

Responsibilities

Within assigned authority, the incumbent will perform the following duties:

• Assist in the identification and development of content and multimedia elements for publishing on UNODC social media platforms and ensure its consistency with UNODC’s Communication Strategy, and UNODC’s mandate and organizational priorities;
• Act as interlocutor for the monitoring and social listening on UNODC’s social media presence, giving insights on key performance indicators and statistics, ensuring the strengthening of UNODC’s presence and impact;
• Help in developing and assessing social media components for communications campaigns and contribute to the design of strategies to maximize outreach to global audiences and increase awareness on UNODC’s role, messages, activities, and special events;
• Help guide the work of the network of the UNODC public website and social media contributors including training and coaching where necessary;
• Provide quantitative and qualitative evaluation of communication efforts to ensure continued improvement in UNODC digital communication practice;
• Actively follow new trends in digital communications with a focus on social media and proposing new ways to engage target audiences;
• Participate in the day-to-day management of UNODC social media platforms;
• Assist in the development of visual products based on UNODC priorities;
• Identify opportunities to develop social media promotions highlighting the work of the organization towards its beneficiaries;
• Work closely with UNODC colleagues ensuring coordinated, streamlined and professional communication throughout the Organization;
• Promote and explain the work of UNODC to wider public;
• Help create and deliver communication plans according to priorities, ensuring communications support for events and conferences.
• Contribute to the collection and analysis of data as well as identification of trends or patterns and provide draft insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods for data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting.
• Perform other work related tasks as required.

Has knowledge of how to use social media to reach target audiences and demonstrable skills in graphic design (Canva). Has an understanding of the use of new technology for communications campaigns. Education

An advanced university degree in communication, journalism, international relations, public administration or related field, is required, or first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience

Applicants to positions at this level who have an advanced university degree in a relevant field of study are not required to have professional work experience. For applicants who have a first level university degree, two additional years of qualifying work experience is required.

A minimum of one year of experience in Public Information, social media, communications or media campaigns in an international organization including analytics, is desirable.

Experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of Arabic is desirable. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.

Assessment

Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise and a competency-based interview.

Special Notice

This is a project post. Filling of this position is subject to funding availability and the initial appointment will be for a period of one year. Extension of the appointment will be subject to extension of the mandate and/or the availability of the funds.
