Are you a retail superstar who’s passionate about helping make a difference?

We’re hiring!
The British Red Cross is looking for a dynamic Assistant Shop Manager to join our friendly charity shop team in Chichester. This is a fantastic opportunity to further develop your retail skills whilst contributing to our cause of helping people in the local community, across the UK, and abroad.

Although this role is primarily for Sunday shift in Chichester, there will be opportunities for additional hours to cover absence in

Chichester and other shops.

Helping people in crisis begins at your local charity shop.

Full of pre-loved clothing, accessories, gifts, and more, our 300 shops across the UK are home to over 6,500 volunteers and 700 paid staff. We’re one big team that loves meeting people from all walks of life.

A day in the life of a Assistant Shop Manager will involve:

  • Supporting the shop manager to run a profitable, customer-focussed shop that is the ‘window of the British Red Cross’ on the high street. From working on the shop floor, to coordinating activity “behind the scenes”, no two days are the same.
  • Creating a brilliant shopping environment and provide an excellent customer experience in store.
  • Supporting the shop manager to oversee a team of dedicated volunteers, supporting their induction, management, and development.

Together, you’ll all represent the British Red Cross to a high standard and embody our core values.

“I’m not delivering to a profit target to enhance someone’s personal wealth – I’m making a real, visible contribution to supporting the work of my chosen charity” – Joanne, Regional Retail Manager.

To be a successful Assistant Shop Manager, you’ll need:

  • Experience and know-how from working in a shop environment.
  • To provide an excellent customer experience, supporting a team, and meeting people from all walks of life.
  • To be commercially savvy with a good understanding of financial targets and measures.
  • Proven IT skills.

Closing date for application is 23.59 on Sunday 14th May 2023 with interviews to follow.

In return for your commitment and expertise, you’ll get:

  • Holidays: You’ll get 36 days annual leave (including bank holidays) and the option to buy an additional 5 days leave.
  • Pension Scheme: We offer up to 6% contributory pension.
  • Flexible working: We will do what we can to make sure you work in a way that suits you.
  • Learning & Development Opportunities: We are one of the UK’s largest charities and have a wide range of career opportunities. We also provide comprehensive learning opportunities for staff to develop themselves.
  • Discounts: You’ll have access to brilliant discounts through the Blue Light Discount Card and our own employee benefits platform.
  • Wellbeing Support – Staff wellbeing is always priority. You’ll have access to mental health and wellbeing support.
  • Team Working – You will be working as part of a team that is supporting our mission of helping people in crisis.
  • Cycle2Work -The cycle to work scheme enables you to lease a bicycle.
  • Season ticket loan – We offer an interest free loan to buy a season ticket for travel between home and work.

At The British Red Cross, we pride ourselves on our diverse workforce, and ensuring we have an inclusive environment for all our staff and volunteers. We remain committed to ensuring our teams can bring their true selves to work without risk or fear of discrimination. We do this through regular data reporting, and the support of our internal Race and Equality Network (REEN), LGBT+ Network, our Disability and Wellness Network (DAWN), Gender Network, Carers Network and Youth Network.
