Title: Associate Attorney

Reports to: General Counsel

Location: Boston, MA or Remote U.S.

Status: Full-time

Position Overview

Reporting to the General Counsel, the Associate Attorney is responsible for supporting the Partners In Health (PIH) Legal Department with a large variety of transactional agreements, including consulting, information technology, licensing and other agreements. The Associate Attorney will also provide legal support for legal projects, including policy review, legal compliance, and contract management.

Responsibilities

• Provide front line support to departments and teams throughout PIH regarding legal questions or areas of legal risk.
• Draft, review and negotiate a wide range of contracts, including MOUs with states, cities, and other public and nonprofit entities for PIH-US. Advise staff and departments on applicable federal and state laws and regulations under the supervision of the General Counsel.
• Assist PIH care delivery and university sites with contracts, agreements and compliance issues in coordination with local counsel as appropriate.
• Develop and monitor organizational policies and procedures related to legal compliance.
• Provide training and education as needed on policies and procedures or new legal or regulatory requirements.
• Research and respond to legal matters and questions related to employment, privacy, data, research, intellectual property, trademark, and copyright laws, and other matters as directed by the General Counsel.
• Keep informed of new developments and changes in applicable laws, policies, and standard grant terms and conditions impacting PIH.
• Under the Direction of the General Counsel, assist with internal investigations.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor required, with at least three years of relevant legal experience.
• Licensed to practice law in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts or in another jurisdiction and in-house registration with the Massachusetts Board of Bar Overseers
• Prior experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts.
• Strong analytical and communication skills and attention to detail
• Demonstrated ability to understand complex legal concepts and offer succinct and understandable explanations and counsel to
• Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently under deadline pressure and changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Exemplary interpersonal and leadership skills; ability to collaborate effectively with culturally diverse staff across departments and countries.
• Interest in social justice is strongly desirable.
