This position is based at our Luxembourg headquarters and requires regular office presence. The EIB offers you the opportunity to live and work in a truly international and multi-cultural environment. We also offer relocation support.

The EIB, the European Union’s bank, is seeking to recruit for its Operations Directorate (OPS), Baltic Sea and Northern Europe Department (BSNE), Corporates Division (CORP) , Unit 2, at its headquarters in Luxembourg, an (Associate) Corporate Banker* – German speaking .

This is a full-time position at grade 4/5 for which the EIB offers a permanent contract.

Purpose

Contribute to the development and execution of the Division’s business plan. Contribute to the identification, appraisal, negotiation, and monitoring of corporate lending operations primarily in Germany and Austria but as the case may be in other markets covered by the Division. Support other Team members managing a portfolio of corporate clients. Support the Division’s/Unit’s strategy work including definition of market /sector strategies and product development.

Operating Network

As an (Associate) Corporate Banker, you will report to the Head of BSNE-2 Corporates Unit in Luxembourg and collaborate closely with colleagues of the BSNE Department as well as in other teams of the Bank involved in such transactions such as Legal (JU), Group Risk & Compliance (GR&C/ OCCO), Projects (PJ) and Portfolio Management & Monitoring (PMM). You will have interactions with potential and existing counterparts as well as other stakeholders (industry associations, consultancy firms, etc.

Accountabilities

  • Support origination and execution of debt/corporate finance transactions
  • Monitor closely corporate sector and trends in corporate lending products
  • Support development and maintenance of relationships with existing and future clients as well as with industry organisations, financial advisors, financiers and other parties
  • Support and monitor the appraisal process in close collaboration with other counterparts in the EIB Risk Management, the Projects Directorate, Legal Services, Compliance, Transaction Monitoring and Treasury, as appropriate
  • Work closely with potential clients in order to develop financing structures that meet EIB Risk and Policy Guidelines on the one hand, and support the clients ’ financing strategy on the other
  • Undertake financial and risk analysis
  • Support preparation of risk pricing proposals for the respective counterparts
  • Draft financial reports, lending proposals and approval documents in cooperation with Project Team and facilitate the approval process at the appropriate approval level and in compliance with the approval procedures
  • Support and coordinate the negotiation process with the borrowers, external legal advisors and internal counterparts
  • Follow-up and monitor the transactions: monitor the fulfilment of conditions in coordination with internal services and manage post-signature events in liaison key external and internal stakeholders in order to maintain the quality of the loan portfolio
  • Participate in technical working groups and other initiatives as the Division’s representative, as appropriate.

Qualifications

  • University degree (minimum an equivalent to a Bachelor), preferably in Finance/Economics
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in the financial sector, preferably in corporate banking/finance
  • Exposure to customer relationship management and willingness to engage and manage relationships at all levels of the client organisation.
  • Solid knowledge of financial analysis as well as experience in corporate credit risk assessment
  • Good knowledge of standard computer tools
  • Excellent knowledge of English and/or French (**), with a good command of the other. (Knowledge of other EU languages would be an advantage).
  • Excellent written and spoken German is essential.

As both English and French are however official working languages of the EIB, proficiency in both languages is a pre-requisite for your future career development. Any language clause in your contract must be fulfilled in order for you to be eligible for a promotion (either via the annual appraisal cycle or via an internal selection process). Proficiency is understood to mean the attainment of level 5 of the Inter Institutional language courses, corresponding to B1.2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL). The Bank offers appropriate training support.
