The position is located in the Programme Office in Tunisia (POTUN), Regional Office for the Middle East and North Afrika (ROMENA), Division for Operations (DO) of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Tunis, Tunisia. The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of the Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Officer based in Tunis and the overall guidance of the Programme Manager of the “Global Programme on the Implementation of the Organized Crime Convention: from Theory to Practice” (GLOT60), located in the Conference Support Section (CSS), Organized Crime and Illicit Trafficking Branch (OCB), Division for Treaty Affairs (DTA). Responsibilities
Within assigned authority, and in close coordination with project staff, the Associate Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Officer will carry out a range of functions in the framework of the “Global Programme on the Implementation of the Organized Crime Convention: from Theory to Practice”. In particular, the incumbent will be responsible for the following specific duties: • Assist in implementing the “Global Programme on the Implementation of the Organized Crime Convention: from Theory to Practice”, within the framework of Outcome II aimed at supporting States in the implementation of consistent policies, strategies and plans to respond to challenges in transnational organized crime. • Contribute to the coordination and organization as well as conduct of regional and national workshops to formulate and implement strategies, share lessons, and enhance cooperation to fight organized crime in several regions as appropriate, including in the Middle East and North Africa. This includes identifying participants and training providers, preparing documents and presentations; facilitate and coordinate expert consultations, workshops and other training activities in furtherance of the core requirements and principles of the United Nations Convention Against Transnational Organized Crime (UNTOC). • Provide support in monitoring financial resources allocated to assigned project components/activities, including expenditures and funds utilization. • Participate in liaising with relevant parties, such as ministries, global, regional and civil society organizations, and other relevant stakeholders, to support the development and implementation of tools, such as legislative guides, as well as strategies to prevent and combat organized crime. • Participate in field missions, including in the Middle East and North Africa, and assist with, inter alia, providing technical assistance to government officials, academics, criminal justice practitioners and other stakeholders as well as preparing mission reports and defining appropriate follow-up activities. • Coordinate with relevant UNODC sections to ensure that proper substantive information is provided in the implementation of the Global Programme, and provide own knowledge, coordinate cooperation with field offices and other relevant entities on the implementation and follow-up of the activities under the Global Programme. • Contribute in providing technical assistance and support to national authorities, as well as other relevant stakeholders, in efforts to prevent and combat organized crime. • Assist in disseminating and promoting the use of relevant UNODC tools. • Assist in designing and conducting workshops, seminars and other events; make presentations on assigned topics/activities. • Provide support in researching, analysing and presenting information gathered from diverse sources in the field of organized crime. • Support in drafting written outputs, e.g. draft background paper, analysis, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications, etc. • Contribute to the collection and analysis of data as well as identification of trends or patterns and provide draft insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods for data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting. • Perform other work-related duties as required.

Education
An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in law, political or social science, criminal justice, international relations or a related field is required. A first level-university degree in similar fields in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. A first-level university degree and no experience will be accepted for candidates who have passed the United Nations Young Professionals Programme Examination (YPP), the United Nations National Competitive Recruitment Examination (NCRE) or the General Service to Professional Examination (G to P).

Work Experience
A minimum of two years of progressively responsible professional experience in the field of organized crime OR the successful completion of the Young Professionals Programme Examination (YPP), the United Nations National Competitive Recruitment Examination (NCRE) or the General Service to Professional Examination (G to P), is required. Proven work experience in the design and delivery of technical assistance is desirable. Work experience with the design and facilitation of trainings and workshops is desirable. Work experience with the United Nations or similar international organizations is desirable. Experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised fluency in Arabic and English is required. Knowledge of another United Nations official language is an advantage.
