JOB SUMMARY:

The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) is a non-profit, bipartisan public policy organization established in 1962 to provide strategic insights and practical policy solutions to decision makers concerned with global security and prosperity. Over the years, it has grown to be one of the largest organizations of its kind, with a staff of some 200 employees, including more than 120 analysts working to address the changing dynamics of international security across the globe.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential functions may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Conduct research on society and social behavior for non-partisan think tank.
  • Specifically, research society and social behavior for the Southeast Asia Program.
  • Research the people and social institutions of Southeast Asia including political, economic, business, diplomatic institutions and any security-related issues.
  • Using findings from research, write research reports, policy briefs, and background memos for senior scholars, government agencies, policymakers, and other stakeholders.
  • Develop the research agenda on Southeast Asian political, economic, business, diplomatic and security-related issues and monitor current trends.
  • Disseminate research findings to policymakers.
  • Develop ideas for the application of research work.
  • Assist with writing grant proposals to secure funding for new research projects from the U.S. government, foreign governments, private sector, foundations, non-profits, and others.
  • Present CSIS’ research findings on a national and international level with media outlets, at conferences and workshops, to policymakers and to a broad range of stakeholders.
  • Mentor Research Assistants and Research Associates.
  • Manage the substantive and operational priorities for research projects.

KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE:

Master’s degree in Asian Studies or related field and two years of experience as a researcher conducting research and policy analysis on foreign policy, politics, economics and security issues of Southeast Asia.
