JOB DETAIL

The Clinton Health Access Initiative, Inc. (CHAI) is a global health organization committed to our mission of saving lives and reducing the burden of disease in low-and middle-income countries. We work at the invitation of governments to support them and the private sector to create and sustain high-quality health systems.

CHAI was founded in 2002 in response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic with the goal of dramatically reducing the price of life-saving drugs and increasing access to these medicines in the countries with the highest burden of the disease. Over the following two decades, CHAI has expanded its focus. Today, along with HIV, we work in conjunction with our partners to prevent and treat infectious diseases such as COVID-19, malaria, tuberculosis, and hepatitis. Our work has also expanded into cancer, diabetes, hypertension, and other non-communicable diseases, and we work to accelerate the rollout of lifesaving vaccines, reduce maternal and child mortality, combat chronic malnutrition, and increase access to assistive technology. We are investing in horizontal approaches to strengthen health systems through programs in human resources for health, digital health, and health financing. With each new and innovative program, our strategy is grounded in maximizing sustainable impact at scale, ensuring that governments lead the solutions, that programs are designed to scale nationally, and learnings are shared globally.

At CHAI, our people are our greatest asset, and none of this work would be possible without their talent, time, dedication and passion for our mission and values. We are a highly diverse team of enthusiastic individuals across 40 countries with a broad range of skillsets and life experiences. CHAI is deeply grounded in the countries we work in, with majority of our staff based in program countries. Learn more about our exciting work: http://www.clintonhealthaccess.org

CHAI is an Equal Opportunity Employer, and is committed to providing an environment of fairness, and mutual respect where all applicants have access to equal employment opportunities. CHAI values diversity and inclusion, and recognizes that our mission is best advanced by the leadership and contributions of people with diverse experience, backgrounds, and culture.

Program adn Position Overview:

Assistive technology (AT) is an umbrella term covering the systems and services related to the delivery of assistive products and services. Specific examples include eyeglasses, hearing aids, wheelchairs, and prostheses, and the service delivery systems that supply these products. The 2022 Global Report on AT reveals that more than 2.5 billion people need one or more assistive products. Yet nearly one billion of them are denied access, particularly in LMICs, where access can be as low as 3% of the need for these life-changing products. The AT sector faces multiple barriers both in supply of appropriate, affordable, and quality products and in demand for these products by users, service providers, and national health systems.

CHAI completed market and sector analyses on five assistive products and related services – wheelchairs, hearing aids, prostheses, eyeglasses, and personal digital devices – to understand what interventions may be required to increase access in LMICs. The reports can be found here: https://atscale2030.org/product-narratives. The need for better market transparency has emerged as a common theme across the different products. Better market intelligence can support buyers and suppliers to make appropriate assistive products more readily available at more affordable prices. Market intelligence is defined as any data providing insights into a given market to increase market transparency for both suppliers and buyers.

The main project the Associate will be working on aims at providing actionable market information to support the procurement of appropriate, quality, and affordable assistive products in LMICs. The objectives are: 1) design and set up processes to gather key AT market information on suppliers, pricing, quality, market size and trends, financing and regulation; and 2) design and set up processes to analyze and share actionable market information via an Annual Market Report and additional communication channels (e.g. webinars, conferences).

The Associate will report to the Global Assistive Technology Team. At the same time, the Associate will be also a team member of CHAI’s China office and is expected to support and engage in integrated China team initiatives. The project requires cross-border cooperation and global coordination with both public and private sector stakeholders. The Associate may work independently and/or with mixed teams consisting of project and local site staff from both within CHAI and external partners such as government entities, international organizations, private companies, and academic institutions.

The Associate will be expected to work independently, proactively, and flexibly, and have a deep personal commitment to producing the highest quality results. The Associate is expected to lead and take ownership of the workstreams you will be engaged in. This requires both strategic thinking and execution effectiveness. We are seeking a highly motivated individual with outstanding analytical ability and communication skills, and academic credentials. CHAI places great value on relevant personal qualities: resourcefulness, entrepreneurialism, tenacity, independence, humility, and work ethic. They will be able to work in a flexible, entrepreneurial, and results-driven manner under pressure, but still with optimism even in the face of complex challenges.
