The two positions are located in the Joint Coordination Centre (JCC), which was established as part of the Initiative on the Safe Transportation of Grain and Foodstuffs from Ukrainian ports (the “Black Sea Grain Initiative” or BSGI), signed by the Russian Federation, Türkiye, Ukraine on 22 July 2022, to facilitate safe navigation for the export of grain and related foodstuffs and fertilizers from designated Ukrainian ports. The United Nations signed the BSGI as a witness, and the Parties request the assistance of the Secretary-General in its implementation, in furtherance of the humanitarian mission of the United Nations and subject to its authorities and mandates.
This job opening is being published for two positions of Associate Information Analyst/Watchkeeper, based in Istanbul, Türkiye. Under the overall supervision of the Deputy UN Coordinator, the incumbents report to the Senior Program Management Officer/Head of Operations.
Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the Associate Information Analyst/Watchkeeper will be responsible for the following duties:
– Maintain understanding of developments/events relevant for the implementation of the JCC objectives through monitoring and collection of data/information from the approved and/or established sources.
– Classify, manage, store and transfer information by using the existing information and/or data sources and systems.
– Organize, analyse, and synthesize information for identification of trends, production of forecasts and assessments.
– Produce accurate and timely reports, products, and briefings, in coordination with other JCC components and sources, when/where required.
– Contribute to effective working relationships within the JCC components and relevant internal and external stakeholders, actors, and counterparts.
– Maintain a system for classifying and storing confidential information, and in consultation with information management/technology expertise.
– Based on agreed Watch Room checklists and procedures, transmit significant information relating to the movement of vessels through the maritime humanitarian corridor, including by alerting the JCC management and Parties to the BSGI where required.
– Work in 8-hour shifts as part of a 24/7 watch room within the JCC, observing movements of vessels through the maritime humanitarian corridor and monitoring adherence to agreed procedures and protocols developed by the JCC.
– Perform other duties as required.

Education
An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in information science, information systems, social science, business administration, marine transportation, maritime management, or related field is required. A first-level degree (Bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in the specified fields of studies with two (2) additional years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Work Experience
A minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in information management, logistics, record keeping, library, information management, security or other related area is required.
Experience in research, information analysis and drafting of analytical products is desirable.
Experience in merchant shipping is desirable.
Experience working in civilian-military coordination is desirable.
Experience working with the United Nations, or a comparable international organization is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position advertised, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required. Fluency in Turkish is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is desirable.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by a competency-based interview.
