The Global Energy (CEMEN) unit, in collaboration with the regional industry groups, is responsible for IFC’s energy business, including power generation, midstream energy infrastructure, and transmission and distribution. CEMEN is looking to recruit an (Associate) Investment Officer to contribute to CEMEN’s priorities related to sector strategy and expertise, knowledge sharing, market creation and innovation, decision-making process and commercial relationships, business development and transaction execution with Global Clients. 

Duties and Accountabilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
•  Work closely with global energy hub leads, sector leads and technical specialists to support management and investment teams globally in project structuring and execution
•  From time to time, contribute to execution of investment transactions, including origination and processing, as a member of the project team
•  Take initiatives and contribute to knowledge relevant to business development, market creation and innovation in the energy sector
•  Support senior team members and management in the development and implementation of energy sector and sub-sector business strategy; maintain a strong grasp of energy sector trends and innovations
•  Work with global client relationship managers to support client engagement and business development in the energy sector
•  Overall, the candidate is expected to share time and effort across: (i) transaction support and processing; (ii) global knowledge for business and sector work; (iii) global client relationship management and business development.

 

Selection Criteria

•  Master’s degree in finance, economics, energy, or similar relevant education
•  5+ years of relevant experience, preferably with several years at a development finance institution
•  Experience in structuring, negotiations, and portfolio management of energy sector transactions in developing countries
•  Strong quantitative skills with significant experience in financial modeling and analysis
•  Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and sound business judgment to identify issues and present creative and practical solutions
•  Familiarity with multiple financial products including project/corporate finance and equity
•  Proven ability and interest in understanding and synthesizing energy sector dynamics, challenges, and opportunities with active engagement in knowledge creation and dissemination
•  Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with fluency in English; other languages are a plus
•  Demonstrated ability to work successfully in multicultural teams and across boundaries
•  Highly motivated and proactive; committed to highest ethical standards
•  Interest in the World Bank Group and IFC’s mission, strategy, and values
