Under the supervision and guidance of the Director of the Development Partnerships Office (D/DPO), the incumbent will support the Partner Coordination Mechanisms (PCM) and Voluntary Cooperation Programme (VCP).
The PCM, established in Africa and the Pacific, has over the last three years supported important regional and programme-specific coordination and collaboration amongst development partners through structured dialogue and information-sharing dashboards.
The VCP facilities WMO Member peer-to-peer support and coordinates Member engagement in WMO projects.
Specifically, the incumbent will perform the following duties:
(a) Support the scale-up of the regional WMO PCM, managed by DPO into additional WMO regions;
(b) Ensure the PCM dashboards align with frameworks and data tools, such as the climate services checklist, the Early Warnings for All Dashboard, and the Financial Tracking for Early Warning Systems (EWS) projects;
(c) Maintain the PCM databases of hydrometeorological projects, coordinating with development partners, stakeholders, and donors to ensure accurate and up-to-date information on projects and programmes related to meteorology, hydrology, and climate services;
(d) Organize regional partner coordination meetings in collaboration with WMO regional offices. This involves planning sessions to review and analyse projects and programmes, facilitating targeted discussions, and conducting ad-hoc focus groups on specific thematic topics;
(e) Process VCP funding requests from members and coordinate technical support;
(f) Organize and coordinate the annual Informal Planning meeting of the VCP;
(g) Support the scaling up of the VCP to facilitate increased engagement of Members in WMO activities and projects financed by voluntary contributions;
(h) Support DPO in its engagement with the Alliance for Hydromet Development, by preparing documents,
(i) Carry out other relevant duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS | ||
Education Master’s degree or equivalent in international development, business management, social sciences, or related fields or a first level university degree in combination with two additional years of relevant experience. |

Experience At least two (2) years of national and international progressively responsible experience in coordinating development assistance projects or programmes or related area. A good understanding of international development with a preference for candidates with experience managing partnerships with United Nations agencies, Multilateral Development Banks, and international non-governmental organizations (INGOs). Fair data management knowledge and experience developing data visualization tools. Familiarity with MS Power BI is highly desirable. Knowledge of weather, water, climate-related activities of WMO and/or other United Nations agencies is highly desirable. |

Other requirements Strong sense of responsibility, maturity of judgement, and initiative. Experience in writing and revising technical documents and reports. Excellent analytical and communication skills. Excellent written and oral English communication skills. Ability to work in a multicultural environment and to foster diversity and team spirit. |

Languages Excellent knowledge of English. Knowledge of other official United Nations languages, specifically Spanish, would be an advantage. (Note: The official languages of the Organization are Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish.) |
Possibility of renewal subject to the availability of funds and pending satisfactory performance after an initial probationary period of one year which can be extended up to a maximum of two years.
SALARY AND ALLOWANCES | |
Annual net base salary on initial appointment is: US$ 50377 | |
Annual post adjustment on initial salary is: US$ 47102 (in addition to the net base salary) | |
