Position Overview

The Associate role serves in a support role to enable a strong relationship and partnership with the World Health Organization, UN Member States, and non-governmental entities to enable UNF’s strategic support to the UN system on cross-cutting issues, including Universal Health Coverage (UHC), Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), and Global Health Security (GHS).
This position is based in New York, NY (hybrid schedule).
Essential Functions
- Support and facilitate a strong relationship for the UN Foundation with the World Health Organization, including, inter alia:
- Help track and draft analyses of multilateral health policy processes at the WHO, under the direction of the Policy Manager
- Work under the direction of the Policy Manager, Global Health to manage UNF’s “official relations” status with WHO
- Provide background information and briefing support to UNF Advocacy team’s work on U.S. advocacy for WHO with the U.S. Administration and Capitol Hill
- Logistically manage UNF’s annual delegation to the World Health Assembly in Geneva in May, including organize internal briefings and external side events, and manage a calendar of side events for each
- Work with UNF’s New York-based Policy Manager, Global Health to:
- Help track and draft analyses of multilateral health policy processes at the UN.
- Provide event planning support for internal briefings and external side events throughout the year and during UNGA
- Provide support for NY-based health mission engagement work as needed (ex. tracking, memos, desk research)
- Manage a calendar of health-related side events during UNGA
- Support and facilitate UNF’s work on select health policy issues:
- Help track and draft analyses of multilateral policy and governance developments related to UHC, AMR and GHS in the WHO, UN, G7, and G20 forums
- Serve as constituency focal point for UHC2030 Foundation Constituency, supporting the Vice President in her role on the Steering Committee and UHC Day campaign planning
- Facilitate UNF’s work with other global health partnerships and coalitions
- Provide general research and writing support to the global health team, including briefing papers, executive summaries, analyses, and presentations on above topics, or others as assigned
- Perform other duties as assigned
Selection Criteria
- Bachelor’s degree required; focus in international affairs, public health, or related, relevant field preferred
- Passion, knowledge and work experience in global health and development issues
- At least 3 years of progressively responsible experience required
- Familiarity with the United Nations preferred
- Excellent oral and written communication skills required, including the ability to analyze and translate or distill complex scientific and policy issues into memos, reports, or blog posts
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse partners; ability to operate collaboratively and communicating clearly, often under time pressure, and with discretion, tact, diplomacy, cultural sensitivity and empathy
- Ability to take initiative; the ideal candidate will be a self-starter who is comfortable carrying out multiple tasks on different projects and assignments, is dependable and consistent, enjoys being part of a team and anticipates team needs
- Strong research skills
- Ability to organize and classify materials (electronic and hard copy) effectively
- Experience with event logistics strongly preferred
- Advanced experience with Microsoft tools, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Sharepoint and Teams
- Ability to meet regular attendance/tardiness policy
- Ability to work under pressure and handle stress
