Under the overall guidance of the Director of the Development Partnership Office (D/PDO) and the direct supervision of the Head of the Project Development and Management Unit (H/PDMU), the incumbent will perform the following duties related to the full extrabudgetary project portfolio of WMO:
a) In collaboration with the Strategic Communication Office (SCO) develop, maintain and update the project portfolio communication strategy;
b) Lead and develop project portfolio communication workplans in collaboration with the SCO that aim to enhance the visibility of WMO extrabudgetary projects and initiatives as well as highlight impacts;
c) Lead and develop new communication products, such as leaflets, brochures, PPTs, web and social media content supporting WMO projects, development partnerships and resource mobilization;
d) Design, edit and publish relevant project materials, such as post workshop reports and news articles, proposals, fact sheets and infographics;
e) Maintain WMO Project webpages;
f) Assist WMO project officers in the proposal development stage to identify appropriate communication activities and budgets for projects;
g) Develop and implement broader DPO communication approaches regarding partnerships (including the Alliance for Hydromet Development) and resource mobilization;
h) Capture impact stories to project contributions to WMO flagship initiatives;
i) Ensure that communication baselines are established against which the achievement of objectives of the communication strategy are regularly evaluated; analysis is undertaken to continuously improve the effectiveness of communication strategy, approach, and activities; results and reports are prepared and shared on a timely basis;
j) Organize and support logistics of project events and fora;
k) Perform any other duties assigned in the context of other projects, partnerships, or resource mobilization efforts;
QUALIFICATIONS | ||
Education Master’s degree or equivalent, or a first level university degree and two additional years of relevant experience in communication, journalism, public relations, political science or international relations or a closely related field. |

Experience – A minimum of two years progressively responsible experience in developing and producing communication materials in support of an organization’s visibility and impact as well as working as an agency focal point for communication. – Demonstrated experience in developing content that clearly communicates organizational ideas and experiences for media, web and print production. – Knowledge of weather, water, climate-related activities of the WMO and/or other United Nations agencies is highly desirable would be an advantage. |

Other requirements – Strong sense of responsibility, maturity of judgement, and initiative. – Experience in writing and revising technical documents and reports. – Good analytical skills. – Ability to work in a multicultural environment and to foster diversity and team spirit. |

Languages Excellent knowledge of English (both oral and written). Knowledge of other official languages of the Organization would be an advantage. (Note: The official languages of the Organization are Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish.) |
Possibility of renewal subject to the availability of funds and pending satisfactory performance after an initial probationary period of one year which can be extended up to a maximum of two years.
SALARY AND ALLOWANCES | |
Annual net base salary on initial appointment is: US$ 50377 | |
Annual post adjustment on initial salary is: US$ 48715 (in addition to the net base salary) | |
