Org. Setting and Reporting
The position is located in Bangui, at the headquarters of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA). The Public Information Officer will be based in Bangui and will report to the Head of the Content Production Unit, under the general supervision of the Head of the Strategic Communications and Public Information Division.
Responsibilities
The Information Officer (Assistant 1st Class) shall perform the following duties within the scope of his/her delegated authority: 1. Manage outreach to local media, civil society organizations, government and national NGOs. – Produce and disseminate information about the Mission, its objectives and activities. Support the Mission’s outreach activities and interactions in the local language(s). – Promote the visibility of the Mission by organizing and/or participating in seminars, workshops, conferences, public events on important issues and events related to the Organization. 2- Strengthen communication capacity with national partners and consolidate local partnerships. – Act as a focal point for local capacity building, by supporting local partners and media through regular contacts and organizing specialized training to reduce gaps in knowledge, awareness and skills. – Develop strategic partnerships with key stakeholders to gain support and maximize the impact of public information objectives. 3. Preparation of content and communication products – Prepare a variety of communications products in support of Mission priorities, working closely with various Mission departments and partners. – Write human interest stories for local and international audiences and prepare digital content for Mission social media platforms. 4. Stay abreast of political changes, trends and developments in the country; provide communications support to senior leaders, senior officials and other Information Section staff on a range of public affairs approaches, methods and issues. – Contribute to reporting to mission leadership and UN Headquarters on UN attitudes, trends, developments and communication activities; coordinate and share guidelines and information activities with other sections of the Information Group and leadership as appropriate. 5- Support internal communications. – Draft reports, newsletters and other materials of interest to internal audiences. – Ensure that internal mission communications are accurate and current. 6. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education
A Master’s degree in communications, journalism, international relations, public administration, or a related field is required. Alternatively, an undergraduate degree with relevant experience may be considered.

Work Experience
A minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in public relations, journalism, multimedia content production or other relevant field is required. Experience in taking professional photographs for publication in various multimedia media is desirable. Experience in monitoring and analyzing social networks is desirable Experience in writing press reviews, activity reports and meetings is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position(s) advertised, fluency in French is required; and knowledge of English is desirable.
