The EIB, the European Union’s bank, is seeking to recruit for its Group Corporate Services Directorate – Group Digital Office (GCS-GDO), Business Solutions Department (BSD), Finance Division (FD), at its headquarters in Luxembourg, an (Associate) Site Reliability Engineer (SRE).

This is a full time position at grade 4/5 for which the EIB offers a permanent contract.

Purpose

Would you like to be part of IT transformation of the biggest multilateral financial institution in the world and one of the largest providers of climate finance?

You believe that automation is key to remove operation load with Infrastructure as Code (IaC).

Partnering with business and IT, you will automate and implement DevOps services and Application Platform solutions aligned with EIB Operational, Reliability, Performance, Security and Cost policies.

Operating Network

You will report to the Head of Finance Division and will cooperate with all other IT Divisions/Units and the user community. This requires an organised and detail-oriented approach, capable of following-up on procedures, and work with a high level of autonomy, to meet objectives.

In addition, given the criticality of the finance platforms, the function requires on-call-duty support, onsite and stand-by.

Accountabilities

  • Deliver DevOps operational services, including secure and efficient deployment pipelines and IT platform services.
  • Provide guidance and training to product delivery teams on new ways of working, processes, and tools.
  • Contribute to the implementation of IT policies, procedures and strategies to ensure optimal operation, reliability, security and performance of critical systems.
  • Advise delivery teams concerning Business Continuity Planning and applications recovery regular exercises.
  • Evaluate and recommend tools, technologies, and frameworks to improve the overall quality and security of infrastructure services.
  • Assist product delivery support teams in incident response activities, including investigating security breaches, mitigating the impact, and implementing preventive measures
  • Follow-up on Change, Incident and Problem Management and participate in Change Advisory Board (CAB) weekly meetings.

Qualifications

  • University degree (minimum an equivalent to a Bachelor) preferably in computer science or related disciplines.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant professional experience as a SRE/Infrastructure Engineer or similar role in supporting product development teams preferably in the banking domain.
  • Deep systems and infrastructure knowledge. Ability to troubleshoot issues in complex network setups.
  • Experience working with Windows and Linux environments.
  • Experience in operating and deploying products in a hybrid-cloud environment with platforms such as AWS and/or Azure and/or GCP.
  • Experience with scripting and automation using languages such as Shell or PowerShell and ideally Python.
  • Knowledge of version control, artifact repository and CI/CD pipelines (e.g. GitHub, Nexus, Jenkins, AzureDevops), configuration management tools (e.g. Ansible, Chef, Puppet), and infrastructure-as-code (IaC) principles.
  • Knowledge of Oracle and/or Sybase and/or MSSQL technical configuration, monitoring. Experience in database performance tuning would be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of Application Performance Monitoring tools, such as AppDynamics or Dynatrace.
  • Experience with Data Observability and monitoring tools like Splunk.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams
  • Excellent knowledge of English and/or French (*), with a good command of the other. Knowledge of other EU languages would be an advantage.

As both English and French are however official working languages of the EIB, proficiency in both languages is a pre-requisite for your future career development. Any language clause in your contract must be fulfilled in order for you to be eligible for a promotion (either via the annual appraisal cycle or via an internal selection process). Proficiency is understood to mean the attainment of level 5 of the Inter Institutional language courses, corresponding to B1.2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL).
