Org. Setting and Reporting
The Trade and Market Intelligence (TMI) section is part of ITC’s Division of Market Development (DMD). TMI has developed and is continuously evolving a set of market analysis tools and customizes these tools for specific regions to facilitate greater intra-regional trade and integration. These are made available for business actors (particularly MSMEs) and are free of charge for users from developing countries. In addition, TMI has developed methodologies for focused studies as well as analytical outputs and surveys in areas such as non-tariff measures. TMI also delivers capacity-building services for beneficiaries in using its tools and analysis methodologies in support of strategic and operational trade-related decisions. The Trade and Market Intelligence section has developed Market Access Map, as part of a package of web-based market analysis tools, which provides information about customs tariffs, tariff rate quotas, trade remedies, trade agreements and regulatory requirements applied by more than 200 countries and territories. Market Access Map helps MSMEs, trade support institutions, policymakers, trade analysts and researchers analyse conditions to access international markets. The goal of this job function is to contribute to the maintenance and development of the Market Access Map application, in particular to the design and optimization of databases to efficiently store and manage data of market access information.
Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of a Market Analyst and the general guidance of the Chief, Trade and Market Intelligence, the Associate Statistician will be responsible for the following duties: • Assists in designing, organizing, planning and managing the collection, evaluation, analysis, compilation and dissemination of statistical data on customs tariffs, rules of origin and non-tariff measures. • Assists in developing, implementing and managing statistical database(s). • Assists in training and technical support on data collection programmes, country practices and other related information. • Assists in the development or revision of standards on statistical concepts, definitions and classifications by performing methodological research. • Assists in the organization of capacity building activities and workshops. • Guides, trains and supervises consultants and professional staff in the function. • Performs other duties as assigned.
Competencies
• Professionalism: Knowledge in the analysis of market access and other trade related data. Capacity to implement the full range of activities involved in data collection, analysis and formatting. Knowledge to develop programs for quantitative market analysis using SAS or similar software. Knowledge of Microsoft Excel. Knowledge of the Harmonised Commodity Description and Coding System (HS) would be an asset. Ability to identify, extract, analyze and disseminate statistical data. Education
A first-level university degree in statistics, mathematics, economics, sociology or related field. Candidates who have completed an advanced degree (Masters or equivalent) may be considered with two years of relevant experience

Work Experience
A minimum of four years (two years with a first level degree) of relevant professional experience in statistics finance, accounting or related area is required. Experience in quantitative market research in international trade is desirable. Experience in the analysis and dissemination of market access information is desirable
Languages
Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which will be followed by competency-based interview.
