Your team

Within the The European Green Sky Directorate, “Aviation Sustainability” leads and manages the Agency’s activities towards the EU and its agencies, ICAO, States and other stakeholders in support to their environment, climate-change and related polities.

Your role

Your role will be to:

  • Support the Aviation Sustainability (ASU) portfolio by providing technical expertise and contributing to the development and operations of the ASU services.
  • Gather and assess operational needs of aviation stakeholders based on sustainability criteria, provide recommendations and coordinate operational solutions with relevant internal teams to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Conduct environmental assessments of (new) operations and vehicle types and develop arguments to support the deployment of activities and evaluate their sustainability.
  • Conduct environmental impact assessments and data analysis studies.
  • Chair sustainability working groups and lead projects by applying a strong consultation process involving stakeholders from across the entire European aviation sector.
  • Analyse stakeholders’ training requirements on the environmental impact of aviation, collaborate with subject matters experts to design training content, deliver (e-) trainings, and further develop the existing training portfolio.
  • Develop data-driven corporate communications, aviation sustainability briefings, newsletters, and think papers, etc. to increase environmental awareness.
  • Carry out any other task in line with the main purpose of the job.

Required qualifications, experience & competencies

  • Completed university studies of at least 4 years preferably in a field related to aeronautical engineering or of 3 years plus 1-year relevant professional experience, or professional training of an equivalent level (i.e. Pilot / ATCO license).
  • Internal candidates can check on the intranet to see what level of in-house experience is considered equivalent to educational qualifications where appropriate.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience to carry out the advertised responsibilities.
  • Experience with Aviation / ATM operations.
  • Experience in managing activities and/or projects.
  • Experience in assessment and data analyses studies.
  • The following would be an advantage:

  • The working languages of the Agency are English and French. For this particular job, candidates must be proficient users of English (C1/C2). The selected candidate will have to acquire, at least, a basic knowledge of French at level A1.
    The levels relate to the European-framework-reference Common European Framework of References for languages (CEFR).

Useful information

  • Applications will be accepted from nationals of EUROCONTROL Member States only.
  • The selected candidate will be offered a contract of 5 Year (s) pursuant to the provisions of the Staff Regulations governing officials at EUROCONTROL. The contract may be renewed up to a maximum of 9 years or converted into an undetermined contract. Before being established in the post, the selected candidate will be requested to provide certified copies of their degrees and successfully serve a probationary period of 9 months.
  • Internal candidates
    If selected, the person will keep their current type of appointment duration (undetermined or determined).
    The internal staff member with a determined contract will be offered, in principle, an appointment for 5 Year(s) with a maximum total duration of 9 years.
  • The successful candidate shall be appointed at the grade set out in this vacancy notice, or if a group of grades has been published for a job level, in principle at the basic grade of the published job level.
  • Candidates declared suitable who are not selected for the post will be placed on a reserve list for similar roles. The reserve list will be valid for one year from the closing date of applications.
