As the leading poverty fighting and humanitarian charity, CARE’s 2030 strategy will see us deliver epic impact through gender equal, locally led and globally scaled programs across 100+ countries. Our strategy will depend on continued revenue growth and the new AVP of Resource Development Content will lead a dynamic content strategy and team to help CARE realize a $1B annual revenue ambition.

The AVP will lead the planning and production of all CARE’s funding proposals and donor stewardship content plus direct a talented team of writers and content professionals. The role will directly report into the Chief Revenue Officer and will be a direct peer of our senior funding leads across Individuals, Corporations, Foundations and Government funding channels. Close partnership with our Marketing, Program and Country teams will be essential to create an understanding of what donors need and how to package CARE’s most impactful programs and strategy into attractive donor offers.

Responsibilities:

  1. Create and lead the execution of a winning Resource Development Content Strategy.
    • Create the framework and processes for a creative and winning content strategy that will provide CARE’s leadership and Resource Development team with the tools to deliver CARE’s impact strategy and gifts and grants; upgrade donors and improve donor satisfaction. This will be an essential part of our $1B growth strategy. Work closely with Resource Development teams to understand the donor market and donors’ needs from CARE and reflect this in our content in a dynamic and sector-leading manner.
  2. Provide high level oversight and excellence to our bids.
    • Provide senior oversight and high-level input to all major bids to increase and sustain sector-beating win rates and position CARE as an innovative impact partner. Lead responsibility for driving our ‘Giants’ $20M+ donor growth plan. Work with the Program and Country teams to drive CARE’s strategy by including our best impact drivers routinely into our bids. Work with the Finance and Operations teams to drive full cost recovery into our bids and support CARE’s journey and win more USG contracts.
  3. Work with the Chief Revenue Officer to create an ongoing and proactive donor-focused approach across CARE.
    • Lead ongoing intelligence and insights from donors and funding leads so that CARE can have ongoing understanding of what we need to do to live up and deliver on our $1B ambition.
      Work with Chief Revenue Officer to inform, influence and inspire CARE leadership and staff on the donor landscape and what we need to develop in our donor content and communications to continue our revenue and influence growth. Form strategic partnerships with the Marketing, Innovation & Impact and Program teams.
  4. Lead Resource Development Content team for ongoing excellence.
    • Bring a people-focused approach to team leadership and internal partnerships. Provide effective supervision for two senior direct reports with CARE’s values. Lead the entire team with a focus on ongoing improvement, strong collaboration and a positive approach for results. Fulfill wider leadership role as a key member of the Resource Development Senior Leadership Team by bringing expertise from the Content Function but contributing to the wider leadership and strategy.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in business administration, communications, international relations, or related field with 12 years of relevant work experience supporting business development in an international development context.
  • Higher level education or equivalent experience with advanced writing as an essential part of qualifications.
  • 12+ years’ experience as a senior funding content leader in a similar field with substantial leadership experience of working in international development or big NGOs strongly.
  • Direct and demonstrate experience of directing, writing and winning several $10M+ private and institutional funding bids in the USA. With an ideal experience in both humanitarian and long term development bids including in multi-country settings.
    Proven experience of successful influence and impact in a large ($200M+), multi-country and networked workplace.
  • Successful leadership of a team where staff members are supported and managed to growth and improved performance.
  • Executive experience in developing and executing a content strategy and professional experience of successful and compelling copy writing.
