The work of the individual contractor will assist UN Trade and Development in the implementation of the Programme, particularly in the operation and management of the TraBio, as well as assisting in the organization of three events, include the meetings of the Informal Working Group on Trade and Biodiversity Statistics and drafting of programme documents and reports.

Duties and Responsibilities
UNCTAD, through its BioTrade Initiative, has been working to support developing countries strengthen their capacity to design and implement mutually supportive trade and biodiversity objectives at all levels. Particularly, it is implementing the global programme on “Linking trade, biodiversity and sustainable development”. Activities are focused on coordination and facilitation efforts to ensure that key stakeholders seize and capitalize on trade opportunities by linking biodiversity and sustainable development, thereby advancing the implementation of the SDGs and the adopted Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF). A cost extension for the programme started on 1.11.2022 with additional activities to be implemented until 31.10.2024. These activities will contribute to the development of a potential future sustainable trade and biodiversity programme. In achieving the outcomes above and in coordination with relevant staff and other UNCTAD consultants and contractors, an individual contractor is needed to: (1) Support the operation, management and dissemination of the Trade and Biodiversity statistical (TraBio) tool: a. Reviewing and updating information/data as requested by Statistics Service and other relevant experts b. Liaising with Statistics Service for ensuring the TraBio is updated and operational, including the online database and visualization tool c. Supporting the updating, operation and dissemination of TraBio as well as drafting and publishing of reports, pager, news items or others as required d. Support the implementation of relevant recommendations related to TraBio under the framework of the Informal Working Group (iWG) on Trade and Biodiversity Statistics (2) Support the logistical arrangements as well as the organization of at least one event organized by the Programme, such as the meetings of the Informal Working Group on Trade and Biodiversity Statistics, among others Draft and send invitations and reminders for the events Prepare background documents jointly with Statistics Service as needed, as well as support the drafting of the website page text Compile all the documents and resources needed for the event, including the PowerPoints Liaise with IT to create the event through a communication platform or other and/or liaise with organizers for both in-person or hybrid events set-ups. Monitor the registration and promote the participation of members of the informal Working Group on Trade and Biodiversity Statistics and/or BioTrade partners Support the drafting of talking points and speeches as well as provide support to speakers as needed Provide support during the event, including monitoring the chat, additional technical support, managing communication and social media channels, and assisting the speakers and moderators Support the drafting of the event reports (3) Provide support to the development of BioTrade documents, including SECO’s reports and the drafting of the new UNCTAD’s Trade and Biodiversity programme, as well as the preparation and submission of Programme documents in accordance with UNCTAD’s procedures and guidelines
Qualifications/special skills
First university degree (Bachelor or equivalent) in Trade, International Relations, Economics, Law, or related field is required. At least 2 years of work experience in economics, trade and/or environment is required. Experience in trade and biodiversity is desired. Experience of working on statistical tools related to trade and/or biodiversity is desired. Prior experience in organizing events and assisting the drafting of reports/studies within the United Nations is desired.
Languages
Fluency oral and written in English and Spanish are required.
