Job Description

Are you a people focused leader, passionate about gender-based violence and interested in supporting families to rebuild their lives after Domestic and Family Violence?

54 reasons is Australia’s leading child rights organisation – no ordinary not-for-profit.

Proudly part of the Save the Children Australia Group and global movement, we’re here to make sure that everyone understands their rights. So that children and young people have their rights met and thrive, in all their diversity.

We champion the children, young people and families we work with. We are inspired by the curiosity and creativity of children and motivated by the love of those who care for them.

With the child’s voice at the centre, we provide quality services to children and their caregivers, advocating with them so that children develop, learn, and are connected, safe and confident. Our people are proudly local, reflective of the communities we serve – in every state and territory, and across regions, remote areas and capital cities.

Where you come in:

This is a full-time, maximum term position based in Brisbane through to the 30th of July 2026. You will be responsible for providing high quality supervision, support, and leadership for a team of eight. Working 9am-5pm Monday to Friday, you will also need to be flexible to respond to issues impacting client safety outside of hours as needed. You will be part of our Queensland Programs team and report to our Regional Manager.

You will make an impact by:

  • Overseeing daily operations in the refuge and ensuring practice standards are met
  • Leading and developing a dedicated and driven team
  • Building relationships with the local community and confidence in the program
  • Ensuring that case management is completed on time and to a high standard
  • Conducting intakes with new clients, including risk assessments and relevant referrals
  • Providing support and professional supervision for staff
  • Working with families to source appropriate, safe and sustainable accommodation free from violence and/or working with families in an outreach capacity
  • Ensuring compliance with service agreements, policies, procedures and legislation, and compiling relevant data to acquit reporting requirements

Does this sound like you?

You’re a passionate and confident leader who motivates and builds the capacity of others, and you have strong knowledge of domestic and family violence and how it affects families and communities. These skills will see you continuously develop staff knowledge, ensuring strength based, trauma informed practice.

This role requires:

  • Experience working with women, children and young people who have experienced domestic and family violence
  • Knowledge of best practice, professional standards, and relevant research in the field of domestic and family violence
  • Experience in coaching, mentoring and the transfer of skills and knowledge to others
  • Demonstrated understanding of the ways in which cultural contexts influence practice approaches
  • Current valid driver’s licence
  • A Bachelor of Social Work, Psychology or relevant Human Service Qualification and/or significant experience managing a similar service

Working at 54 reasons is more than just a job.

We are a learning organisation that invests in the development and wellbeing of our people. Our workforce is approximately 600 people strong, and proudly diverse, whether in race, ethnicity, gender, age, disability, sexuality, cultures and beliefs.

Our people work from both home and office, with important moments held in-person to foster belonging and support professional development.
