JOB DETAIL

The International Water Management Institute (IWMI), a CGIAR Research Center, is seeking applications from enthusiastic individuals who are interested in international development and would like to gain valuable experience in resource mobilization and partnerships under IWMI’s internship program. The internship will be based at IWMI’s headquarters in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

IWMI’s Business Development Unit (BDU) is responsible for identifying funding opportunities, managing IWMI’s pipeline of proposals and supporting the proposal development process. The Unit also explores new partnerships and fundraising opportunities, e.g., with foundations and private sector organizations. The team works in close coordination with several departments and teams at IWMI, including the research teams, finance department and the communications team.

Scope of internship

During this internship, the Intern will be supporting the BDU team under the supervision of the Senior Manager – Resource Mobilization and Partnerships. The internship will support the team in implementing IWMI’s Partnership Strategy Action Plan and IWMI’s 7-year Organizational Growth Strategy (2024-2030).

During this internship, the intern will assist in the following areas:

1. Support the BDU and IWMI researchers with proposal development.

  • Prepare call summaries for management review.
  • Organize meetings with proposal teams and other internal and external stakeholders.
  • Coordinate requests for input to proposals.
  • Compile project lists, CVs and career summaries.
  • Format and copyedit proposals prior to their submission.

2. Conduct research on prospective new donors, partners and country programs.

  • Support the development of briefing notes for donor visits and events.
  • Support the preparation of due diligence assessments.
  • Support analysis for new funding opportunities or country programs.

3. Support the preparation of BDU institutional information.

  • Develop project data sheets.
  • Prepare BDU meeting minutes, FAQs and guidance notes.
  • Assist with training materials (Ex: PPTs and other resource materials for workshops).

4. Support the development of relevant communication materials in collaboration with the Communications and Knowledge Management (CKM) Group.

  • Assist with the preparation of donor stewardship reports.
  • Develop content for internal and external BDU web pages.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree students who have recently graduated in the field of Business Administration, Marketing, Development Studies, International Relations, Economics, Environmental Sciences, or any other related discipline.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work both in a team and independently.

Benefits

IWMI will provide a monthly stipend to the selected candidate during the internship period.

The duration of the internship is 06 months with the possibility of extension for another 6 months based on based on performance, requirements of IWMI, and availability of funds.
