THE IMPACT YOU WILL MAKE
Reporting to the Director, as Business Partner, People & Operations, you will be an integral part of projects and initiatives that will contribute to the strategic planning and transformation of the organization. As a member of the management team, you will partner with leaders and employees to provide a wide range of value-added HR services to the organization. By utilizing broad HR knowledge and experience and applying HR best practices, the Business Partner will support the operational and strategic objectives of Save the Children Canada. This position will deliver HR services in the areas of talent acquisition and workforce planning, labour and employee relations, DEI, policy and program implementation, compliance, compensation and benefits, occupational health & safety and performance management.
In this hands-on role, the you will provide a full range of HR operational support; bringing both a practical experience and demonstrated expertise in HR policies, programs, processes and labour/employee relations. As trusted advisor, the incumbent will understand and pro-actively support Save the Children Canada’s strategic goals as they relate to the staffing, engagement, performance and development of our people.
RESPONSIBILITIES
As one of the vibrant roles within the organization, we are seeking an individual who is eager to work on the following areas:
Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Represent the People & Operations team as a strategic partner and trusted advisor to our leadersihp and management teams, as well as all SCC employees.
- Oversees/delivers full recruitment services partnering with internal hiring managers, job postings, sourcing, interviewing, selection, employment offers and ensuring orientation and onboarding processes are in place
- Develop and implement best practice people strategies and tools to support the organization’s strategy and operating plan
- Develop in partnership, maintain and lead the implementation of HR programs aligned with the organization’s strategic people plan
- Manage the international mobility process
- Manage the integrity of HRIS data and utilize metrics and data to support business decisions
- Develops, maintains and leads the implementation and management of HR programs aligned to the strategy to support full employee lifecycle
- Evaluate, design, propose and implement benefit programs with external stakeholders and ensure organization’s benefit plan is competitive, supports organizational needs & strategy and is aligned with SCC’s values and principles. Oversee and manage the annual renewal process.
- Oversee programs and policies related to supporting employee professional development, mental health and wellness
- Lead the performance management cycle and coach managers in providing ongoing feedback and leading teams in a strong performance culture to achieve individual and department objectives; and when required disciplinary action. Address employee relations matters and escalated issues on sensitive and/or complex matters
- Build strong working relationships with managers and provide subject matter expertise and coaching support
- Participate in local Collective Agreement Bargaining and ensure compliance with the provisions of the Collective Agreement
- Work closely with the Labour Management Committee through frequent and open discussions and information sharing
- Maintain knowledge of industry trends and legislative requirements
- Manage the international and domestic travel, including safety and security, in alignment with policies and processses
- Manage and administrate the organization’s safeguarding program and policies and further ensure employees are are effectively onboarding into the understanding of the travel & safeguarding programs and changes are communicated accordingly
WHAT YOU BRING
In order for you to carry out these duties, we believe that you are brining the following education and sets of skills.
Qualification, Knowledge & Experience:
- Completion of a University degree in Human Resources/Industrial Relations/Business or Management
- Minimum 6 years of HR Generalist experience and 3 years in a Management role
- CHRL designation is a significant asset
- Previous experience managing compensation and benefits programs
- Prior HR Management experience in a unionized environment, demonstrated experience leading Collective Bargaining and managing labour relations
- Experience in International non-profit sector considered an asset
- The BPPO will bring both practical experience and demonstrated expertise in HR policies, programs, processes and labour/employee relations. In this hands-on role, the BPPO will provide a full range of HR operational support. A trusted advisor, the incumbent will understand and pro-actively support Save the Children Canada’s strategic goals as they relate to the staffing, engagement, performance and development of our people.
- Deep Knowledge of relevant legislation including Employment Standards Act, Occupational Heal & Safety Act, AODA, Canada Labour Code, Human Rights Code
- Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written to work with a broad range of stakeholders including the Leadership team, global Managers, staff, the union and external vendors
- Must adhere to Save the Children’s Child Safeguarding policy and protocols

This position salary range between $91,555 – $108,135 CAD depending on skills and experience. In addition to this, our employees will have the following package of additional benefits:
