Duties and Responsibilities

The ICs are expected to work alongside UNIFIL HQ FTS staff to complete the above deliverables within the indicated timeframe.

The tasks include:

– Work with unshielded shielded twisted pair, single- and multi-mode fiber optic, coaxial cable or equivalent.
– Use diagnostic equipment to troubleshoot problems, maintain lines or repair copper and fiber optic cable (diagnostic equipment includes analog/digital voltmeters, oscilloscopes, signal generators, breakout boxes, cable scanners, LAN meters, portable sniffers, fiber optic light source and power meter, laptops using IP protocols).
– Install, maintain and troubleshoot intra-building fiber optic cables from distribution to
wiring closets; terminate with ST, SC type connectors.
– Maintain and troubleshoot outside plant inter-building fiber optic cables.
– Certify data wiring; monitor, inspect and conduct all tests required ensuring all system component connections are operating properly; use equipment to certify cabling such as CAT 6, CAT 5, fiber optic for compliance with Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet standards.
– Make sure cabling is Power Over Ethernet (POE) compliant.
– Install telephony related equipment, interconnecting devices and hardware.
– Work from ladders, scaffolds and roofs to install, maintain or repair electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures.
– Place conduit (pipes or tubing) inside designated partitions, walls or other concealed areas, and pull insulated wires or cables through the conduit to complete circuits between boxes.
– Construct and fabricate parts, using hand tools and specifications.
– Plan, install and maintain grounding by the application of IEEE Standard 81, ANSI/EIA/EIA-607 and ANSI/TIA-607-B.
– Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications/special skills

High school diploma or equivalent is required.
A minimum of three (3) years of in indoor and outdoor data cabling installation is required.
Diploma in telecommunications desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required.
