Call for proposals for a firm to conduct qualitative work
on food safety experiences in Bangladesh
Background
The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) seeks a qualified consulting firm to conduct qualitative work to better understand food safety experiences in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The activities will be conducted during the first months of 2024.
Scope of Work
The Consulting firm will:
- Provide feedback on the qualitative interview guides
- Help identify an appropriate field site
- Identify and hire two (2) experienced qualitative enumerators, with an intermediate understanding of English. This level of English proficiency is necessary for effective communication during training sessions, which will be facilitated in English, and for clear communication with IFPRI during field activities
- Support the training of enumerators and the pilot-test of the interview guides, with the expectation that the training of enumerators will be conducted in English
- Organize all fieldwork related logistics, including (but not limited to) training, transportation, fieldwork, and supervision of fieldwork activities
- Monitor the quality of data collection
- Conduct observations of implementation in the field
- Ensure local sensitization about the field study as needed
- Obtain all required local permissions (except for local IRB, which will be obtained by IFPRI)
- Conduct the transcription and translation of the data

Duration: This is a 3-month consultancy from January to March 2024.
Expected Project Timeline:
Total duration: approximately 60 days
- Pilot study:
- Duration: approximately 15 days
- Participant recruitment for pilot study: 5 days
- Training for pilot: 4 days
- Data collection for pilot study: 6 days
- Translation, transcription, analysis, and feedback integration from pilot study:
- Duration: approximately 15 days
- Translation, transcription of interviews from pilot study: 5 days
- Analysis and interview guide revisions: 5 days
- Team feedback and finalization of revisions: 5 days
- Main study:
- Duration: approximately 30 days
- Follow-up training after pilot: 5 days
- Participant recruitment for main study: 11 days
- Data collection: 14 days

Required qualifications
- Ample experience conducting high-quality data collection in Bangladesh
- Experience collecting qualitative data
- Experience working with academic partners
- Capacity to work with bilingual (Bangla/English) teams
