Duties and Responsibilities
Background Information ECA’s mission is to deliver ideas and actions for an empowered and transformed Africa; informed by the 2030 Agenda and Agenda 2063. The mission will be guided by ECA’s five strategic directions which are: advancing ECA’s position as a premier knowledge institution that builds on its unique position and privilege to bring global solutions to the continent’s problems and take local solution to the continent; developing macroeconomic and structural policy options to accelerate economic diversification and job creation; designing and implementing innovative financing models for infrastructure, and for human, physical and social assets for a transforming Africa; contributing solutions to regional and transboundary challenges, with a focus on peace security and social inclusion as an important development nexus; advocating Africa’s position at the global level and developing regional responses as a contribution to global governance issues. The Individual Contractor (IC) will work under the overall supervision of the Chief of the Security and Safety Service, the incumbent provides comprehensive oversee the health, well-being and general care of all canines. The caretaker is also expected to work with Security officers in the Canine Unit. Essential Duties/Responsibilities: Feed, monitor eating habits, and report appetite fluctuations. Clean kennels, crates, runs, dishes, laundry and complete general cleaning duties as posted or assigned. Bathe and brush dogs when needed and able. Scoop dog waste immediately and dispose of it as instructed. Mop up accidents immediately Dust mopping/wet mopping floors as assigned. Removing trash from containers. Disinfect outside area. Follow all procedures and protocols to help decrease cross-contamination and increase overall health. Work with the canine Supervisor and Officers to enhance the physical and emotional wellbeing of all dogs. Treat the animals with kindness and respect. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/special skills
Academic Background, Minimum Experience, and Skills High school graduate. Minimum of one years of previous work experience providing cleaning service preferably in UN. Previous experience of animal care is an advantage. Good oral communication skills Self-motivated, independent worker Proven ability to follow instructions and learn new things Ability to work in a team environment Demonstrated flexibility and proven coping skills Must be willing to work weekends and holidays. One Year working experience
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required.
