Position Overview

The Capacity Strengthening Advisor will manage the implementation of the anticipated USAID Tanzania Strengthening the Capacity of Local Organizations activity, under the leadership of the COP. She/he will focus efforts on supporting the improvement of the organizational capacity, financial management and internal controls and operations for local organizations to ensure their sustainability and growth. This position is contingent upon award of the contract agreement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure the development of capacity building approaches and strategies to ensure that capacity development strategies are evidence-based and in line with world-recognized, cutting-edge best practices.
  • Develop the capacity building action plans and contribute with tutoring, coaching and technical advice to local Partners for the implementation of their Capacity Development Action Plans.
  • Coordinate with the project management team – Technical, Finance, M&E – for integration of capacity building approaches, targets and reporting into financial management processes for local Delivery Partners.
  • Support the coordination of all project training initiatives and provide curriculum development support, when needed.
  • Contribute to the preparation of work plans, quarterly and annual reports, and other reports and documents that summarize the results and evidence of the project.
  • Prepare periodic reports that document processes, outputs and results of activities related to the capacity development process.
  • Employees comply with all company policies and procedures, including completing all compliance training topics by the deadline to satisfy each and receiving the corresponding acknowledgment statement that the training has been completed.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Basic Requirements

  • Master’s degree with six (6+) years of relevant work experience or bachelor’s degree with at least ten (10+) years work experience
  • Other local education and experience: Equivalent combination of education and experience as bachelor’s and 10 years of experience in areas such as project management, social work, public health, business administration, education, capacity and organizational development or other related areas.
  • Skills for solving interpersonal problems creatively and effectively.
  • Availability for trips to implementation areas of the program.
  • Experience and skills managing teams, and leading technical process with various stakeholders.
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with government and civil society partners.
  • Proven technical expertise and experience leading Capacity Development assessment, planning, implementation and monitoring with local partners.
  • Excellent facilitation and coaching skills in a variety of aspects of organizational development.
  • Experience in the development of organizational capacities in systems strengthening, economics, service delivery, quality improvement, and policy development.
  • Experience in community-based capacity building projects, including experience in community mobilization and civil society development and USG grant management processes.
