The Opportunity

To support the implementation of our new global and subregional strategy, and we are recruiting for a Caribbean Change Advisor who will be a key player in the transformation process for our Caribbean region (Haiti and Dominican Republic) as we are seeking more operational and strategic synergies between both country offices.

Our implementation approach is country led, with the Director of Sub Region and both Country Directors being accountable for ensuring appropriate changes in each country office, in line with the global strategy. As such, the Director of Sub Region and both Country Directors will be responsible for jointly setting goals and for deploying the Caribbean Change Advisor to ensure their time and skills are maximised. As it is important that he/she provides a neutral, independent view on change problems and issues.

Job Purpose

To accelerate the adoption of Plan International’s change processes in Haiti and the Dominican Republic, linked to the generation of a joint umbrella Country Strategy.

To facilitate the process of optimizing the operational model of Haiti with a specific focus on work with and through local partners and on financial sustainability.

Provide guidance on the process for the further creation of shared services and shared positions between Haiti and Dominican Republic.

Role Dimensions

Reports directly to the Director of Sub Region of Central America and the Caribbean, as this change project is of strategic level. Functionally to the CDs of the countries.

Occasional travel (20% of time) between both countries that are undergoing transition. Local travel within the countries to local offices (when needed).

Key Accountabilities

Transformation Guidance

  • Responsible for ensuring all key stakeholders in the Regional and Country offices have a full appreciation of the transformation framework and its application.
  • Works with the Country Directors to facilitate and support each country office through the transformation process, ensuring active engagement and ownership of local leadership / management team.
  • Provides organizational development expertise to enable Extended Management Team Members to implement structured organizational change, ensuring business as usual continues in the meanwhile.

Effective and Timely Implementation

  • With minimal supervision, facilitates and guides the development of transformation process for each country office within the region, in order to increase reach and impact for children, especially girls.
  • Enables connections between country office teams and subject matter experts, to ensure that expert advice is available to support transformation when needed.
  • Works with leaders to support the process of the generation of a joint umbrella Country Strategy, with alignment in process and partial outcomes between Haiti and the Dominican Republic.
  • Support the implementation of quick wins and swift changes that can be made on short term.
  • Co-ordinates and guides the development of implementation plans to enable timely transitions, providing reports on progress, risks and risk mitigation to country and subregional management.

Learning and Improvement

  • Works to increase individual and organizational change capability and ensures people are engaged with change, to accelerate and embed the adoption of change.

Qualifications

No specific qualifications are required for this role.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Extensive change management planning and implementation experience, preferable with additional experience in some or all of the following disciplines: Organisational Development, HR, Finance, project management, lean six sigma.
  • Desirable:
    • Knowledge and previous work experience with Haiti and Dominican Republic.
    • Knowledge and understanding of child rights, gender equality and community development approaches is desirable.
  • Self-motivated, with high drive to achieve results and able to work with high degree of autonomy.
  • Able to manage multiple projects, work with senior leaders and deliver results.
  • Intellectually flexible – a lateral thinker, open to new ideas and methodologies.
  • Strong business acumen with an understanding of performance reporting tools and methodologies.
  • Strong influencing and negotiating skills, with well-developed political acumen.
  • Collaborative in approach, with the ability to remain neutral/independent.
  • Highly credible, with a good track record in tact and diplomacy.
  • Culturally aware – adapts own behaviours/style in light of cultural environment.
  • Ability to clearly articulate messages to a variety of audiences (both written and verbal).
  • Fluency in French and Spanish. Fluency in English is desirable.

Physical Environment

  • Usually based in a Country Office with partial telework.
  • Occasional travel in or between the Dominican Republic and Haiti, according to country where person will be based.
  • Certified VESPA / HEAT training will need to be obtained for travel to Haiti.

Location: We will be recruiting globally for this role, but the individual must be based in Haiti or Dominican Republic and therefore support with relocation is available.

Type of contract: Two years’ fixed term contract
