CONTEXT

The GGGI Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) Program has expanded from a team of 12 in three countries in 2017 to a team of 100+ across 11 countries in 2023. In 2023, GGGI manages a US$ 6.5M project portfolio in Central America, encompassing Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and El Salvador, with a resource mobilization pipeline exceeding US$ 8M. The majority of projects in the region concentrate on delivering low-carbon and inclusive solutions in the Sustainable Landscape sector.

Given the growth of the LAC region’s portfolio and available opportunities in Central America, GGGI is seeking a Sustainable Landscape Central America Lead. This role will provide technical leadership, lead government and donor engagement, oversee personnel, manage resources, and ensure delivery quality across the Central America region.

PURPOSE

Based in San Salvador, the Lead will be responsible for the implementation of GGGI programs, projects, and activities across Central America Member and Partner States, ensuring strategic government and donor engagement, effective people management, resource mobilization, and quality of delivery.

Additionally, the Lead will act as GGGI’s technical authority on Sustainable Landscape activities in Central America and, occasionally, may be invited to contribute to the development of sustainable landscape solutions across the wider Latin America region.

Reporting responsibilities will be to the GGGI Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean.

ENGAGEMENT
  • Lead the engagement with Central America governments to strengthen GGGI positioning and advance GGGI mission and mandate;
  • Lead the engagement with partners and donors to strengthen GGGI delivery and positioning in the region;
  • Foster cross-country collaboration across North, Central and South America;
  • Engaging with experts, government counterparts and organizations to translate GGGI Strategy and sustainable landscape expertise into innovative solutions and service offerings;
  • Lead internal engagement with LAC Country Programs, Regional Office, GGGI Investment and Policy Solution (IPSD) division and HQ to build the visibility of the Central America region, identify and build synergies and complementarities across programs;
  • Represent GGGI Central America in national and international events;
  • Lead the engagement with projects counterparts, acting as GGGI’s sustainable landscape technical lead.
  • Mentor, coach, and promote staff development under your supervision to foster professional growth and enhance team performance.
DELIVERY
  • Lead the operationalization and quality-delivery of country and regional projects;
  • Oversee and ensure on-time on-budget delivery and high-quality quality execution of GGGI projects and programs across the region;
  • Oversee and coordinate all Central America projects, ensuring high-quality design, execution and reporting;
  • Lead GGGI Sustainable Landscape interventions across the Central America region and contribute to the development of sustainable landscape solutions across the wider Latin America region;
  • Lead the development of proposals and ideas spanning across GGGI sustainable landscape service offering, including nature-based solutions, reforestation and forest conservation, climate-smart agriculture, mangroves restoration, among others;
  • Lead the strategy setting processes for donor, partners, and governments engagement strategies;
  • Lead the implementation and oversight of Central America donor engagement strategy to secure resources for GGGI Country Programs;
  • Engage in the setting of GGGI Strategic Outcome targets for Central America countries;

 

REQUIREMENTS
QUALIFICATIONS
  • An advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in Forestry, Agriculture, Biology, or other related fields;
  • At least 15 years of professional experience related to sustainable landscape, including nature-based solutions, reforestation and forest conservation, climate-smart agriculture, mangroves restoration, or related fields; Of which preferably at least:
  • 10 years of professional experience as a project and program manager, demonstrating a trajectory of increasing responsibility and complexity of projects under management;
  • 5 years of professional experience as a Team Leader within a public or international organization, managing high performing teams engaged in the delivery of projects with public sector beneficiaries;
  • 10 years of professional experience in Latin America, of which 5 in Central America countries;
  • Demonstrated experience building and maintaining positive relations with government stakeholders;
  • Demonstrated experience leading the development of multi-annual, multi-million proposals;
  • This is an international position, requiring at least 2 years of international experience (i.e. experience outside of one’s home country).
  • Verbal and written fluency in English and Spanish;

WORKING CONDITIONS

The Lead is an International Position at X11 grade level in GGGI’s International salary scale. The starting salary for the position is USD 112,176 per annum depending on qualifications and experience. International Positions are eligible to receive additional benefits, including relocation allowance, expatriate allowance, education and childcare allowance.
