PIH JOB DESCRIPTION ( CHEF )
Position Title: Chef – (Liberian National Only)
Reports to: Staff Operations Supervisor
Department: Operations Department
Liaises with All Employees
Supervises: Cook
Work Location: Maryland
Employment Type: Full Time
Position Overview:
Under the direct supervision of the Staff Operations Supervisor, the Chef is responsibile for preparing and serving of all meals – including day-to-day menu that is provided within budget.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Set up the kitchen with cooking utensils and equipment, like knives, pans and kitchen scales
  • Study each recipe and gather all necessary ingredients
  • Cook food in a timely manner
  • Delegate tasks to kitchen staff
  • Inform wait staff about daily specials
  • Ensure appealing plate presentation
  • Supervise Cooks and assist as needed
  • Slightly modify recipes to meet customers’ needs and requests (e.g. reduce salt, remove dairy)
  • Monitor food stock and place orders
  • Check freshness of food and discard out-of-date items
  • Experiment with recipes and suggest new ingredients
  • Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations within the kitchen area
  • Ensure safe Health and Safety practices by:

– reporting of all equipment not working properly;

– observe all hygiene regulations;

– ensure that food is correctly stored.

  • Maintain knowledge of all recipes so that the chef’s place can be filled in effectively in case of absenteeism.
  • Coordinate planning, budgeting, and purchasing for all the food operations
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned.

 

 

Qualifications:
  • Four years of experience working in a food preparation/supervisory position as a Chef
  • Available to work overtime when requested
  • Certificate from a reputable catering institution
  • Have a clean neat personal appearance.
  • Special attention to grooming, hygiene care and clean and proper clothing
  • Ability to work long shifts and on a seven-day roster
  • Excellent record of kitchen management
  • Ability to spot and resolve problems efficiently
  • Capable of delegating multiple tasks
  • Good Communication and leadership skills
  • Keep up with cooking trends and best practices
  • Knowledge of food-related curriculum and training techniques
  • Understanding of raw materials, quality control and other techniques for the effective creation and distribution of food products
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Knowledge of food preparation regulations and standards
  • Ability to use common kitchen tools, including cutlery, graters and ranges
