We need your unrivalled technical knowledge and experience to ensure that our programs and advocacy efforts are of high quality and deliver impact. Be the voice of children’s rights and child protection in all that we do.

Save the Children is no ordinary not-for-profit.

We’re ambitious, creative and outspoken. We stand up for children’s rights. We want all children to be educated, healthy and live a life free from violence. We run programs in Australia and overseas and, if there’s a disaster – like an earthquake, drought or conflict – we are there on the ground.

Where you come in:

Reporting to the Regional Director of Pacific Program Development and Quality, you will be part of the Pacific team, and provide strategic and technical advice, leadership and guidance on child protection and child rights governance in the Pacific. This includes championing child rights and advancing our child protection goals in our strategic and programmatic work across the region. This is a full-time, permanent position, based in the Pacific, Australia or New Zealand.

You will make an impact by:

  • Leading our Pacific Regional Strategy to engage children in decision-making, champion their rights and voices, and eliminate violence against women and children across the region.
  • Leading and contributing to the design and development of proposals for child protection and child rights programs.
  • Providing technical guidance to support the implementation of high-quality child rights and protection programs across the region.
  • Providing professional development support to our national Child Protection technical advisors, and co-leading a Community of Practice to support collaboration, good practice, evidence and learning.
  • Advising on advocacy initiatives designed to promote policy and legislative changes to promote child rights across the Pacific region.

Does this sound like you?

You have expert knowledge and experience of child rights and child protection issues, ideally in the Pacific context. You will have experience in building capacity through training and coaching. Youur experience has seen you contribute to transformative program design, implementation and monitoring. Your outstanding communication skills, flexibility and resilience will see you achieve great outcomes for vulnerable children whilst working with multiple teams and stakeholders.

This role requires:

  • At least 7 years’ experience of working internationally in the design and implementation of development programmes on human rights (preferably children’s rights) and / or child protection systems and issues in development settings.
  • Understanding of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) and how it applies to Child Rights and the Governance sectors, ideally in the Pacific region
  • Familiar with applying child rights-based approaches including child participatory approaches into programme design and implementation, and related analytic tools.
  • Knowledge of methodologies and best practices for promoting gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls to prevent violence experienced by children.
  • Experience of the Pacific regional context, capacity and policy analysis, and influencing and advocacy at regional/international level in order to hold duty bearers to account to realise children’s rights.

Working at Save the Children is more than just a job.

It’s the feeling of knowing that your work is contributing to making the world a better place for children and working with others who feel the same. In addition to a connection to social causes, you will have access to:
