Job Description

At 54 reasons, we’re passionate about supporting those affected by domestic and family violence (DFV) to rebuild their lives. Our Domestic and Family Violence Refuges provide women and children with urgent safe accommodation when they have nowhere else to go. 54 reasons are one of the largest providers of DFV refuge services in Queensland – be part of this dynamic network of teams working together to deliver high quality support to women and children escaping violence.

54 reasons is Australia’s leading child rights organisation – no ordinary not-for-profit.

Proudly part of the Save the Children Australia Group and global movement, we’re here to make sure that everyone understands their rights. So that children and young people have their rights met and thrive, in all their diversity.

We champion the children, young people and families we work with. We are inspired by the curiosity and creativity of children and motivated by the love of those who care for them.

With the child’s voice at the centre, we provide quality services to children and their caregivers, advocating with them so that children develop, learn, and are connected, safe and confident. Our people are proudly local, reflective of the communities we serve – in every state and territory, and across regions, remote areas and capital cities.

Where you come in:

In this part time, fixed term position (8 days per fortnight, through to 30 June 2026) you’ll work within a team to provide specialist support to children and their families within the DFV refuge program. You’ll provide crisis intervention and support to children who have witnessed domestic and family violence and collaborate with their carer, implementing 54 Reasons Child iView framework. As part of the SEQ DFV Refuge team, you’ll work on a rotating roster between 7am – 10pm Monday to Sunday and will report to a Team Leader.

You will make an impact by:

  • Directly supporting children and young people accessing crisis accommodation with their immediate needs after experiencing DFV
  • Conducting individual and group activities that will support parent/child attachment and healthy development and transitions
  • Enhancing child focused practice in the region both within 54 reasons and more broadly in the community
  • Connecting families with the services they need and providing appropriate referrals

Does this sound like you?

You have experience within the domestic and family violence sector and are passionate about children’s rights. You know how to respond well in crisis and how to work with children who have experienced trauma. You’re able to work independently and take initiative while working within the role boundaries.

This role requires:

  • Degree qualification in Children’s Services or relevant Human Services field (or significant experience in a similar service)
  • Solid understanding of child development and the impact of trauma on children and young people
  • Demonstrated experience working with children and young people from a child-centered framework
  • Current drivers’ license
