The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) is an independent United Nations (UN) organisation since 1995 (Resolution 48/501, 1994), which succeeded two decades of its operations as a part of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) since 1974 when it was established.

In Serbia, UNOPS has been active since 2000 and the organisation provides support in conducting demanding socio-economic reforms and facilitating accession to the European Union. The projects focus on sustainable local development, good governance, the rule of law, social cohesion, environment and emergency response. The projects are implemented with funding from the European Union (EU), the Governments of Switzerland, Sweden, Serbia, and the UN organisations.

UNOPS Serbia Multi-Country Office (RSMCO) also covers Montenegro and North Macedonia, as well as Bosnia and Herzegovina, where the need for support and potential engagements are being assessed. The work of UNOPS and the projects it implements is contextualised within the broader Sustainable Development Goals frameworks and objectives of the countries of its operations.

 

Under the supervision of the Administration Officer, the Cleaner is responsible for providing a high standard of hygiene and cleanliness throughout the office premises by performing various cleaning duties.

In particular, the Cleaner is responsible for:

  • Detailed cleaning of office areas including mopping and vacuuming of floors; dusting furniture, equipment, and partitions; emptying of wastebaskets and recyclables and disposing them to disposable areas.
  • Detailed cleaning of toilets including washing/disinfecting of sinks, floors, polishing of metalwork and replenishing of toilet supplies as appropriate.
  • Maintaining a clean and orderly kitchen including facilities, equipment, appliances and floor.
  • General cleaning of stairways/corridors, balconies and areas around the office premises.
  • Washing of windows, door panels, partitions, etc. as appropriate.
  • Perform basic gardening activities.
  • Reporting to supervisor maintenance requirements.

Perform other duties as may be reasonably required and in line with the incumbent’s scope of services above.

It is expected that the incumbent will perform the duties during working days and in duration of 3 hours per day.

 

Education

  • Secondary school education is required.

Work Experience

  • Experience in cleaning services is required.

Language Requirements

  • Fluency in Macedonian is required.
  • Basic English speaking skills and a good understanding of the English Language in general is an asset.

This is a local position, it is therefore open to Nationals of the Republic of North Macedonia and to individuals who have a valid residence/work permit.

Terms and Conditions

  • For staff positions only, UNOPS reserves the right to appoint a candidate at a lower level than the advertised level of the post.

Information on a retainer contract:

  • The UNOPS recruits various kinds of experts under the retainer Individual Contractor Agreement (ICA) to help us fulfill short-term tasks or projects.
  • A retainer ICA is issued for a period of time during which the services of the individual contractor may be required intermittently.
  • UNOPS shall have no obligation to obtain any minimum quantity of services from the Individual Contractor during the duration of the retainer ICA.
  • A retainer ICA will specify a unit price (e.g. amount per day actually worked). For budgetary purposes, a monetary limit will be specified when the ICA is awarded and issued.
  • Payment will be made only after completion of work (if any) or reaching agreed milestones.
  • A retainer ICA does not accord any exclusivity to the Individual Contractor with respect to the Services listed in the job description. UNOPS shall have no limitation on its right to obtain services of the same kind from any other source at any time.
  • UNOPS Individual Contractors must comply with all applicable UNOPS policies and instructions. This includes the obligation to declare any outside activity that could result in an actual or perceived conflict with the interests of the UN; as well as to refrain from using information gained through the UNOPS Individual Contractor Agreement contract for the Individual Contractor’s own purposes or to help a third party (unless the information is already in the public domain), in particular, but not only in relation to the procurement of works, goods and services.
