Purpose

The Climate Justice team at Amnesty International seeks a campaigns consultant to produce campaign materials and to support other entities within Amnesty in using these materials.

Background

Amnesty International’s climate justice programme was initially focused on research and policy, and has grown to include key advocacy and campaign objectives over the last few years. A consultant is required to produce campaign materials that reflect our research and policy and that advance key roles in COP and other global forums.

Objectives and deliverables

With support and oversight from Climate Justice team staff, the consultant will:

  • Attend climate justice related calls and coalition meetings related to COP28 and other priorities; share notes with Climate Justice team
  • Support the Climate Justice team in identifying a coherent plan for campaign and communications moments for 2023, building on Amnesty’s strategic priorities and work planned by different teams and entities from across the Amnesty movement
  • Assist with the identification of cases of individuals/communities which Amnesty could campaign on, and liaise with different teams to produce relevant materials
  • Assist in the research, writing, and dissemination of Advocacy Briefings regarding Amnesty priorities for COP28
  • Develop agendas and PowerPoints for internal Amnesty movement climate justice coordination meetings
  • Produce a campaign digest or other materials aimed at facilitating engagement of Amnesty entities ahead of COP28 for
  • Coordination with other teams and programs within Amnesty

Known Project Stages

Much of the work will anticipate, follow, and follow-up on COP28, which will be held in the United Arab Emirates in December 2023.

Other work will be periodic, such as participating in monthly Amnesty International cross-movement meetings on climate justice.

Essential Requirements

The Amnesty International Secretariat is based in London. The consultant can be based anywhere, provided they are able to participate in meetings held during the workday in London.

At least five years of campaigns, advocacy, and/or communications experience is required.

At least basic knowledge of climate change and human rights is required.

English language fluency is required.

Desirable Requirements

Experience working on campaigns within the Amnesty movement.

Bidding Instructions

The consultant is expected to work approximately 1.5 days/week between the beginning of the consulting period, and the end of the year. Our expectations of work output match the allocated days.

To bid for this work, please submit the following:

  • A brief cover letter, outlining your motivation and relevant experience
  • Relevant work products (these can be attached or hyperlinked)
  • A daily rate for the work, which will total about 1.5 days/week

Prices must be given in pounds sterling.

As standard, payments are made by Amnesty International 30 days after receipt of a valid invoice for the agreed work milestone completed.

Bids must be in PDF, Word, PowerPoint or Excel format.

Bids are due by Monday, May 8 at 5pm London time

Video interviews will be conducted the following week, with a decision by the end of the week
