Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA) Lead, Egypt
ACDI/VOCA is seeking a CSA Lead for an upcoming Climate Resilient Agricultural Market Systems Activity in Egypt funded by USAID. The anticipated program will transform the agriculture and food system toward sustainable production, economic growth, and efficient climate resilient practices. The activity will aim to strengthen Egypt’s agricultural market systems including the capacity of farmers, enterprises, and organizations to expand their operations sustainably.
The CSA Lead will play a critical role in designing and implementing interventions that promote sustainable agriculture, mitigate climate change impacts, and enhance the resilience of agricultural systems in Egypt. The program is anticipated to start in 2024 and this position will be based in Egypt.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design and implementation of climate-smart agriculture interventions aimed at promoting sustainable production practices, improving soil health, water management, and enhancing the resilience of crops and livestock to climate change impacts
- Provide technical expertise and guidance to project staff, partners, and stakeholders on climate-smart agriculture approaches, technologies, and best practices
- Collaborate with farmers, enterprises, and organizations to promote the adoption of climate-smart agriculture practices
- Facilitate the integration of climate resilience considerations into agricultural value chains, including market access, input supply, and post-harvest management
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of climate-smart agriculture interventions, identify lessons learned, and contribute to knowledge sharing and learning within the project
- Support the development of partnerships with research institutions, government agencies, NGOs, and other stakeholders to promote innovation and scale up climate-smart agriculture practices
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, agronomy, environmental science, or relevant field is required; master’s degree is desired.
- Minimum 7 years of progressively responsible experience working in climate-smart agriculture, sustainable agriculture, or related fields, preferably in an international development context.
- Strong technical expertise in climate-smart agriculture practices, including but not limited to agroforestry, conservation agriculture, soil and water management, and climate-resilient crop and livestock production.
- Experience working with farmers, enterprises, and organizations to promote the adoption of climate-smart agriculture practices.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and facilitation skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Experience working in Egypt preferred.
- Fluency in English is required.
