The Communication specialist at UNIC Cairo will contribute to enhancing the visibility and impact of UNIC Cairo’s activities and UN priorities through engaging human-interest stories, creative content for social media, website updates, visual content creation, video messages, and potentially podcasting. Such services will result in increased awareness, engagement, and understanding of the UN’s work among the target audience, fostering a stronger connection between the UN and the targeted groups.

Duties and Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the Associate Public Information Officer at UNIC Cairo, the communication specialist is required to perform the below functions:
1. Drafting Human-Interest Stories:
• Create engaging human-interest stories in both English and Arabic that highlight UNIC Cairo’s activities, as well as UN priorities and campaigns.
• Conduct thorough research to gather relevant information from various sources.
• Verify the accuracy of information by cross-checking with local, regional, and global UN offices.
• Obtain quotes from speakers and UN officials to enhance the storytelling.
2. Creating Creative Content for social media and Communication Products:
• Prepare compelling and tailored content in English and Arabic for social media platforms, considering the audience in Egypt and potentially Saudi Arabia.
• Generate diverse content, including scripts for videos, series, songs, and other communication materials.
• Align content with UNIC and UNCG communication strategies and objectives.
3. Activity Development:
• Assist in developing activities in advance that align with the communication strategies of UNIC and the United Nations Communications Group (UNCG).
4. Compilation of Social Media Analytics and Trends:
• Gather and analyze social media analytics and trends related to UNIC Cairo’s activities.
• Utilize the data collected for reporting purposes within UNIC Cairo and for potential reports and presentations.
5. Drafting UN Information for Website Updates:
• Prepare relevant stories and other UN-related information to update the UN in Egypt website.
• Ensure accuracy, clarity, and alignment with UN messaging and priorities.
6. Visual Content Creation:
• Design visually appealing infographics related to UN priorities to enhance communication efforts.
• Create engaging visual elements that support the dissemination of UN messages.
7. Podcast Responsibilities:
Provide essential support to the UNIC Associate Public Information Officer in delivering high-quality podcast content and cover the following responsibilities:
• Conduct thorough research to gather relevant information for podcast content.
• Assist in planning and executing the production of podcast episodes.
• Coordinate with potential guests to schedule interviews and recording sessions.
• Develop engaging scripts that align with the podcast’s objectives.
• Edit and refine podcast episodes to ensure a polished and professional final product.
• Collaborate with the communication team to effectively promote and distribute podcast episodes.
• Stay up to date with industry trends and best practices related to podcasting and content creation.
Qualifications/special skills
• Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field.
• A passion for podcasting and an understanding of its potential as a communication tool.
• Strong research skills and the ability to gather accurate and reliable information.
• Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to multitask and prioritize effectively.
• Creativity and proficiency in developing engaging content for social media platforms and other communication products.
• Familiarity with social media analytics tools and ability to interpret data trends.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to work on multiple tasks with strict deadlines.
• Knowledge of the United Nations system and its priorities is a plus.
Languages
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Arabic.
