Duties and Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Ombudsman, the Intern may be assigned matters such as: • Developing a communications and outreach strategy for the Office. • Creating a campaign around the principles of the Office in order to maximise the Office’s outreach to personnel throughout Gaza, Westbank, Syria, Lebanon and Amman. • Designing material, digital and non-digital, to promote the Office to personnel. • Developing and updating the Office’s intranet site. • Contributing to the development of creative and interactive training materials in line with the communications and outreach strategy. • Liaising with colleagues to arrange and manage online events hosted on platforms such as Facebook Live to ensure such events have maximum impact. • Other duties as assigned. On completion of the internship, the candidate will have gained: • Understanding of the work of the Office of the Ombudsman for UNRWA. • Insight into the challenges faced by an organisation in terms of managing and resolving internal workplace conflicts informally. • Experience working in an UN agency in a multicultural context, with a particular focus on communications and outreach. • Skills to design materials to promote and educate colleagues about the Office. • Experience in communications and presentation. • Experience in strategic planning. • An ability to work independently and as part of a small team located across multiple countries.
Qualifications/special skills
Education: Applicants must be students enrolled in, or have recently completed (i.e. commencing the Internship within one year of graduation date), either a graduate school programme (i.e. second university degree or equivalent degree, or higher) or the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent). The bachelor’s degree (or higher) must be from an accredited educational institution in the area of communications, marketing, advertising, design, public administration, conflict resolution or related field. Work Experience: Applicants are not required to have professional work experience, although prior work experience may be an advantage. Excellent IT skills are required.
Languages
Excellent command of spoken and written English. Knowledge of Arabic is an asset.
